This is ludicrous.  I've read through all the posts that have arrived since I posted last year and what are Apple doing about it - Nothing.  I LEGITMATELY purchased cd's and copied them onto my computer and Itunes and loaded them onto my iphone/ipod.   They keep disappearing.  What's the point in having an ipod when this keeps happening?  I now store my copied CD's on Windows Media Player but I can't sync my iphone/ipod with Windows...........this is so frustrating.  All I want to do is carry my music around with me and listen to it.

APPLE CAN YOU PLEASE RESPOND TO THESE PAGES OF COMPLAINTS???

    Has anyone

1- did a back up of data so you have 2 copies

2- made sure you were disconnected from the internet?

3- stored the data in a differenet folder besides the one itunes supplies?

Can they? is a good question.  Apple could fix this, but they won't. We are idiots to think it is a "glitch" or something they "can't quite seem to figure out" they do thsi on purpose. It not a real problem on Apples' part, more a finacial maneuver . The music that tends to go bye bye is stuff that is NOT purchased on iTunes and not taken from a CD but compilations cd's friends have given me and stuff i have found on the internet. All the music on your iTunes goes to back Apple to a filter and they filter out what looks suspect. They tell you they take your music in order to find artwork and songs etc. if there are questions about it it gets deleted. Can Apple fix this? Yes. Will they, No.  They want you to re-buy rings on iTunes. in this way they are nit unlike the "Mob"

Switch from iTunes to MediaMonkey and you can synch your iPod to it. Then buy your music downloads from another source other than iTunes. I've invested THOUSANDS of dollars in Apple products and music downloads. They won't get any more of my hard-earned money.

It's shocking that this thread goes all the way back to 2009. Someone wrote earlier that Apple won't respond to this problem--which I have been dealing with too--because this is a user forum. But it's hosted on the official Apple site!!

At first I thought Apple let songs you ripped disappear so that you would be forced to buy from the Store, but I've lost songs I've gotten there too. So Apple is actually worse than evil--they're stupid.

    APPLE FIX THIS!!!!

iTunes is easily the worst piece of garbage it produces, worse than the new Pages even. Apple = the new Microsoft.

I've asked the question on user feedback but no-one has bothered to respond.  Disgraceful.

So you missed the part (of the single sentence) that states,

"but please note that we cannot respond to the comments you submit"?

Do you work for Apple or something, you seem to be sticking up for them?  This is clearly a huge problem for many people, perhaps I'm naive in hoping that there may be some response as so many people are clearly ****** off.  As a massive company thought they might be a little more interested in feedback but clearly not.  Profits come first, people second.  Thanks for your input.

Karen, Ive seen those replies before not at all helpful and alwyas pointing out the Apple point of view; whats happening to peoples libraries is disgraceful and not one person ahs come forward and acknowledged it at Apple, Ive lost lots of music from Cds, but got the reply from someone here it wasnt my right to rip Cds etc etc, always defending the Apple line.

Disgraceful but hey he/she thinks he/she's helping, sadly he/she is not!

but got the reply from someone here it wasnt my right to rip Cds

It is absolutely your right to rip cds. Where it has been a confusion that has come up more than once in this topic is that people think they can rip their cds and then sell (or give away) the source, then complain that the songs are gone and they have no way to get them back. If you sell (or give away) the media you purchased such as a cd or tape or album them you are supposed to delete the songs from your library.

Earlier in Apple's history they did not allow you to re-download songs you had purchased; now they do. So as long as you follow the rules, even if iTunes deletes something, you should always be able to get it back, either from Apple or from the original source media.

Which doesn't mean that it's not still frustrating as heck when songs are deleted through no fault of ours...

I've been an Apple guy since I bought my Apple IIe in 1983.  Last year iPhoto lost a large numbers of pictures so I switched to Adobe Elements.  Now iTunes has screwed up my song library so badly it will take me weeks to fix it.  Songs are just gone or iTunes  doesn't see them for some reason.  And don't get me started on the random duplication of tracks.  It's just a mix of ripped CDs and purchased songs from the iTunes store.  There is simply no reason for this.  I will try to find an alternative to iTunes that will work with my iPod and iPad and iPhone.  This sort of thing is simply intolerable and the indifference displayed by Apple to such a serious and widespread problem makes it that much worse.

After 30 years as a die-hard Apple customer I am now shopping for a Windows laptop to replace my MacBook Pro, my tenth, and final, Apple computer.  I'm not a big Windows fan but if I am going to get a second-rate operating system and software, at least I am not going to have to pay a premium price for it.

I thought I was tech savvy enough to get this to work but I can't.  Very frustrating.  When I tried to sync my iphone with itunes I tried syncing the playlists on my computer then tried the box that said purchased music,  I cannot get the albums I paid for to be on the iphone.  I probably purchased them on the phone not the computer too.
