Q: latest update of 11.1.4 for 64 bit leads to corruption of itunes

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

• iTunes
• Apple Software Update
• Apple Mobile Device Support
• Bonjour
• Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

and paste into:

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

BTW I've revised my advice slightly for anyone else looking for solutions...

• Bonjour
• Apple Application Support

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above then search the computer for copies of the file QTMovieWin.dll - you should only have one copy in the relevant folder for your system.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (32-bit Windows)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (62-bit Windows)

Delete any others and this should not only fix the problem, but prevent it from recuring on subsequent updates.

I have a PC windows 32-bit.  I recently had an update for itunes (I think it was the 11.1.4 version) with the corruption of MSVCR80.dll.  I did all of the steps that was mentioned about-- removing, reboot and tried to reinstall.  Everytime I try to reinstall the program, it takes me to the new download for 64-bit.

Is there an older version for 32-bit windows 7 that I can download and get it back up and running?  If anyone knows a link, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for the link.  I was able to download the 10.7 version.  Not sure if I want to download the current version if it has the possibility of a corruption.

Unless you upgraded from iTunes 10.7 at the same time you are likely to find that iTunes won't read the library. You may need to reinstall the current build or restore the pre-upgrade library in the manner shown in Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

I tried to upgrade today on Windows Vista Ultimate and got the corruption of MSVCR80.dll message.

I followed the instructions above from turingtest2 (but like nealbeb I couldn't uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support) , and reinstalled iTunes 11.1.4 on Windows Vista.  iTunes now starts up no problem and is functional (no loss of library/playlists/etc), but it crashes every time after about a minute.

After a couple of restarts, it still crashes every time.

Should I try to untinstall everything again, then reinstall iTunes?

BTW I upgraded on my Windows 7 laptop and have had no problems.  Smooth install.  Unfortunately my devices are hooked up to my desktop (Vista in last post).

You could try repairing AMDS from the programs and features control panel to see if that helps. Otherwise it is probably worth going through the detailed steps in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.
