Jan 24, 2014 7:01 PM in response to turingtest2by artigan,Just a note, but using the Uninstall button didn't work, when I tried to remove Apple Mobile Support service. However, clicking the Change button, and then choosing Remove, did work. Once I got it removed, I was able to reinstall iTunes and got it working again.
Thanks for the help.

Jan 24, 2014 9:16 PM in response to turingtest2by kansaskeith,Thanks, turingtest2, worked like a charm, and I am only sorry I fiddled and futzed with the bad iTunes software update and the Runtime library error for four hours before finding this thread. But it's fixed!
NOW, A QUESTION: This happened Friday night when "Apple Software Update" found the new iTunes release on my Windows (7)(64) laptop computer and I told it to install. But I ALSO have a Windows (7)(64) desktop computer and I don't want to fight all this again! I haven't yet been asked by Apple Software Update to go to the new iTunes version on the desktop, but I anticipate that I might. So. . . since several of us on this thread had this same headache with the Runtime error, is it apparent there is a bug of some sort in the new iTunes release/download?? Should I hold off for now if asked to update? What is your advice? THANKS AGAIN!

Jan 25, 2014 2:24 AM in response to kansaskeithby turingtest2,You're welcome.
I've no idea why this has happened. My XP box at home had the same kind of meltdown during the install, my Win 7 box at work installed perfectly. I'd probably hold off installing it on your other computer for now unless you're happy to spend the time fixing if it goes wrong. As far as I know there aren't any major changes in this build so I don't think you'd miss much by holding out until the next one.

Jan 25, 2014 4:42 AM in response to Kimmi83by tackshopper,Hi Everyone....
IT WORKED.
just finished going through the process recommended by turingtest2 - and it has seemed that this has worked. I just wish that I had come to this forum as soon as I got that first error, and not waste 4 hours of my life trying to sort the thing out on my own. THANK YOU APPLE FORUMS. GREAT SERVICE!!!!

Jan 25, 2014 7:38 AM in response to Kimmi83by Golden Ferret,Many thanks for the info. I should have checked the discussion board before wasting a couple of hours trying to fix the problem. Hopefully Apple will make sure that the next iTune update will not cause a similar problem.
