Q: Upgraded to Maverick - finder (and some other) windows are stuck to upper left corner

So why you stay on a OS that is no diferent that the one before.

In my case they were 4(four) bugs that botther me no one. It is not wordy the work one have to put in.

I am so happy on 10.8 after experience Mavericks.

Thanks for the tip. By just moving the dock to the bottom (usually is on the right hand side) I got all the windows unstuck. Definitely a much better work around than having to quit the applications or log out.

Hoping for a fix soon.

I hope this helps everyone until there is a real fix, but I had the same issue nearly every time I would wake my Mini (with Finder, VLC, Chrome, anything left open).

I have had great success with going into System Preferences > Energy Saver > Display Sleep > Never

I have not had the issue since changing this setting. Good luck!

Sorry but that those not work, since hackintosh I have System Preferences > Energy Saver > Display Sleep > Never so now it is always on, best solution 10.8 till a real upgrade happen sample 10.10 were if you have a flu and you get close to the screen, you could infect someone on the other side either mac/guy or a developer.

That is my dream.

One more thing , this problem does not seen to affect all, no, only a few I erase and install a new Mavericks and it did the same, how come is only a few?. It is hard to google it at lease for me. Anyway I don't mease 10.9.

10.9.1 is out and it does not solve the problem. C'mon Apple, fix the **** bug. It's more than annoying.

Most of the solutions here remind me of Microsoft WIndows in their early days, when we would restart the machine in the morning, now I do that for my Mac. Apple fanboys are really loyal I must say for coming up with so many variations of work-arounds, ... just to protect the fame of Apple Inc .

Well, since the latest Maveric update did not fix issue, either Apple developers are simply incompetent, or they don't have the incentive.

Can't help with the first problem, -but if incentive is their problem, then I increase my offer to $20, ... if Apple can fix it.

Otherwise, I have to say Apple is emulating Microsoft's early days, when Microsoft money bailed it out, pretty well.

Changing the size or location of the dock worked for me too.  That - or closing the offending application and re-starting it.  Of course, you can't do that with Finder - so the only option to 'fix' Finder is to shift the size or location of your dock.

I have a 2-day old 27" iMac.  Was very disappointed to have my first experience with Mavericks be a problem...

I will do that instead of playing with vudu. I myself buying a new one now and curius. maybe I should not.

so my question still how many of us are having this problem can be no more than 1% and why. meanwhile long live ML.

It just so happens that I was on the phone with Apple Support when this problem started happening - I was talking to them for an entirely unrelated reason.  It was the Apple Support engineer that I was speaking with that forwarded me the link to this thread - and at least one other.

He did not have a definitive answer as to why this is happening.  I asked that he 'run it up the chain' to see if we can get some action on it - and he said he would.  I have to trust him to do what he says.  At lease I can assure people that someone who actually works for Apple has seen this thread and has also talked a customer experiencing the problem (me).  Hopefully it will get some attention. 

If I hear anything further, I will certainly post an update.  For now, at least, there is a workaround.

Sorry guy but the only work around is Moutain Lion. I was not with Steve in his garage but I run macs since OS 8 and I never had any thing like this happen.

This does not happen out of the blue the screen need to be off or at sleep to happen something push me to write back because what you say even so you wish me a Happy new Year instead of a lucky one like I am wish you.

In 2008 my last year in apple I can say I new perhaps 3 of those who new anything more than what they tell them to know.

And my friend I can tell you you talk with one of the 1 million clueless apple helpers and now in they if you don't know you works around you can be talking with a call center mouse thinking he/she is a 2 level.

Keep using the work around what ever 10.9 has is not enogth for me to take this insult. And by the way I used for 15 days until I give up, very rear with me but Apple is not this. So next time you bored not go remind us of a work around.

Have a lucky year and next time ask for a second level and get his number so you can call back and see if any happen.

I have this same problem. It doesn't happen all the time, but it seems like whatever application was last active before the user switching was used will (sometimes) be affected when returning to the original space.

In other words, if the Finder was active, then the Finder windows will be stuck in the top left corner. If Safari was active, then it appears to affect Safari windows.

Also, my machine is also set to "never sleep," so I think we can probably rule out sleeping as being the cause. This never happened before 10.9.

Same to me, really annoying

It always happens when I turned into login screen and goes back.

Many application include chrome, xcode have run in to this situtation.

I have Mac Mini Mid 2011, and connected to a monitor with HDMI cable

I haven't tried the Dock trick.
