Q: Pixel Size / Aspect Ratio on Original Photos got inverted resulting in distorted photos.  How can I fix it?

I have had roughly 300 to 500 photos through out my collection of 13,000+ photos in my iPhoto / Aperture collection that have been distorted by an inversion of the aspect ratio.  It appears that most of these were somehow rotated to the right, but the aspect ratio was NOT rotated.  This resulted in a distorted image.  I have no idea how this happened.  Additionaly I have slimmed down my iPhoto size by removing service copies using "CleanMyMac 2" so the original files no longer exist.

 

When looking at many of them in Aperture and looking at the Pixel Size I get something like this ...

 

Pixel Size: 2048 x 1536 (3.1 MP)

Original Pixel Size: 1536 x 2048 (3.1 MP)

 

So I am needing a script or a tool that I can use to invert the pixel size / Aspect Ratio on the effected photos.

 

Can anyone help?

    Really bad user error - CleanMyMac2 abd MacKeeper have destroyed many iPhoto libraries

     

    You need to remove CMM2 and restore a backup form before you used it

    Unfortunately I dont have a backup prior to that.

     

    What I need is a tool that will aid me in correcting this distorted photos.

    Unfortuantly what you need is a backup - for some reason you do not have one (a second really bad user error)

     

    You have corrupted your library and at this point you will need to start over and create a new iPhoto library for the originals in the masters folder

     

    You question is like I ramed my car into a wall and now i want a cheap simple solution to removing the dents - there is not one

    I am aware of the error and not seeking some tool that will recognize distorted photos throughout the collection and magically restore the library.

     

    What I am looking for is a tool that will allow me to invert the aspect ratio on the photos as I currently have them.  Undoubtedly it will still take a lot of work and I will have to go photo by photo to do it.  I have actually corrected a couple of photos uing this method via photoshop, but its a multi step process for each photo and has to be done outside of the library.  I am looking for a script addon inside of Aperture or iPhoto that will allow me to select a photo and invert the Aspect Ratio in a single step.

    Have you tried photoshop?  I believe you can transform, scale, etc as you wish resulting in returning your aspect to normal. 

     

    What's not clear is how these were modified in the first place - if you squeeze or stretch them back there is going to be some kind of interpolation.. which may result in distortion. 

     

    Either way you will need to be very specific about the amount of change in each direction to try to get it to look 'normal' again.

     

    Once you figure that out you should be able to create a droplet you can drop the other photos on and automate the process.

    CleanMyMac 2 made a mess of the Library. The solution is to restore from your back up and never use that app on your iPhoto Library - or indeed on your Mac imho.
