New & Confused!!
The New Part...
I have been a Windows (IT) guy all my adult life. I finally made the switch to Mac this past Xmas with the purchase of a shiny new Mac Mini. I have a large Panasonic plasma TV that serves as my monitor as well. My Mini is connected via HDMI to a Harmon Kardon home theater receiver.
I have been experiencing many of the same issues as others here with regard to waking the Mac up and having windows moved to new locations. Some times this does not happen at all. Some time it's just the Mail program, or the browser. On some occasions the window(s) will be moved to the upper left corner, and often they are resized smaller, but not on the left side. In other words, I'm unable to reproduce similar results from a series of similar actions. An IT guys nightmare.
However, one thing has stood out in several of these posts. This problem seems to have shown itself when using an HDMI to HDMI cable and Mavericks. Many of the posters did not have this issue with HDMI under earlier versions of the OS.
The Confused Part...
So, outside of doing some hardware resets, with limited results for most, the only solution is for me to order yet another cable from Apple and go MiniDisplay to HDMI? That's the fix? I have to admit that this has me scratching my head. One of the motivating factors for moving away from the Windows world was because "Apple Just Works". Well, clearly in this case, it does not. I'm not making an indictment of Apple or the Mac, I have really enjoyed the transition and doubt I could easily be persuaded to move back to the Windows platform, But if you're going to support HDMI, then support it. This has become a relatively standard video interface and to expect owners to wait for the next update for a possible fix is an unreasonable expectation on Apples part. Perhaps this is the way it works here, or more accurately, doesn't work here. Sometimes leaving your faithful minions in the dark does not always warrant the greatest level of confidence. It would go a long way for Apple to simply acknowledge this issue and let us know their plans to correct it. I don't mind waiting as long as I know I'm waiting for something. After all, I waited all this time for my first Mac! All in all, an awesome machine!!
