Q: update 11.1.4 won't install on my laptop.  Now I can't get iTunes to work at all.

Update 11.1.14 gave me an error message saying that I should download it and then try to install it manually.  I can't seem to do that either.  Now iTunes won't open at all.  What do I do now?  Have I lost everything I had loaded on iTunes?

    Hey guys.

For those of you having issues removing certain parts of iTunes to troubleshoot these issues (in particular, the Apple Mobile Device Support component), give this tool that Microsoft put out for situations like this a try. This should allow you to remove the AMDS stuff and proceed with a nice, stable reinstall.

Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled - http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en

This tool might take a little while to do its thing, but it works well for what it is designed to do.

Also, you can get some instructions on how to use said tool over at this article from the Apple knowledge base:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" alert appears when removing Apple software in Windows - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3704

(Note that the above article was originally written for a different type of issue, but the instructions apply to this issue quite nicely regardless.)

    Good luck!

After repeated attempts to re-install Itunes, I have finally given up, Mitzee7, your music is still intact, as long as you don't delete all Itunes folders.  I've gotten several error messages " Error 7 ( Windows error 126 ) then the infamous message " Missing MSVCR80.dll "  Hellllllllo folks, I searched under Windows/winsxs and low and behold this MSVCR80.dll was there.

I now have a laptop and a desktop PC with no  Itunes software on them.

Can someone give us a correct direction to fix these issues ???

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

    • iTunes
    • Apple Software Update
    • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    • Bonjour
    • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

    Please note:

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

finding apple is not so user friendly -and I have had apples since a 2e and an early MAC.

I cannot find teh set up file to install a new installation-when I go to start menu and type in the setup  it comes back with the same warning as when opening ir trying to open i tunes.

    I understand i have to reinstall  11.3.1, not 11.4.1

So a) how do I find 11.3.1 (was it overwritten when I downloaded 11.4.1 since the name of file I think is itunes setup64.exe and apple does not dfferentiate in that id with whether its 11.3.1 or 11.4.1

See the post above. You need to uninstall a number of components before reinstalling iTunes 11.1.4.62.

One little problem with your uninformed suggestions. Can’t download iTunes at the iTunes web site. Clicking on the “download” button within Firefox v26.0 results in nothing but disk thrashing. No prompt to save any files. Nothing downloaded.

Also it appears that one or more of the components deleted by the broken iTunes update process, crashed parts of Microsoft Office. Error that appears most often is MSVCR80.dll not found.

Maybe you should leave this to the Windows experts at Apple to answer and fix.

updatng my need for a set up file-I apparently do not have a recent set up file for itunes  11 on the PC with the proble,--I have set ups for 9 and 10 but not 11.

I do have setup files for 11.0.1.12 on another PC which I put on a usb disk.

However I am pretty sure the version that got messed up was fairly current-I updated to current version of  11 on this main PC when I got my IPAD air probably in December-but cannot find that setup version on pc and the start menu wil not let me search for itunes set up.

so If I cannot find 11.2 or 11.3 on my main pc,, can I use an earlier version of 11 and fully restore everything?

    TIA Turingtest2

I cannot believe apple is seeing this now and not communicating or making 11.3 available for download

or do I after removing everything, install the latest version? which might be 11.1.4.62.(is 11.1.4.62 the latest before 11.4)

I believe there is some sort of issue with Firefox and the iTunes download page that prevents the download from appearing. You could read about it here for example. Find a workaround or use another browser.

My post above contains a summary of steps in this guide from Apple, HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, links to the same, and some other useful information for those worried that they might have lost their libraries.

This is a user to user support forum. Apple staff rarely play.

You should install iTunes 11.1.4 (the ".62" at the end isn't published on the download page) which is the current version (at the time of posting).

I had the same issue so I just performed a system restore back to before I attempted the update.  All is well with the previous version of iTune.

Thank you to tt2.  After getting the error message when trying to update itunes, i finally uninstalled it.  But it wouldn't let me reinstall ---------- until I followed tt2's directions.  Although I had to go in and repair the apple mobile device support before it would uninstall and then reboot my computer before it would let me move on to the next item to uninstall.  It was quite the process, but am happy to say that after 2 days, I finally have itunes back on my laptop with all my music.  Thank you. Thank you.  I really do surprise myself at all the techy things I am learning to do!!!!!

what I have found is when I roll the mouse over the set up file the detail appears-

I am almost set to do the uninstall and reinstall--a sunday project looks like

I found a site that had 11.1.4.62 set up--

now , is that the one before this affilicted setup file -which was probably the one I had installed in December.

Also, does itunes have a "help" pulldown that I can use to see which versions are on PC (my other PC's)

Whats possibly funny is that I have a second office and that desktop is a 64 bit xp I think and that install went ok yesterday when I was at the office. Now I am in a different city but my laptop is my PC for using itunes et al.

while I updated itunes in December it was a result of staying with v10 til I had to update because of my new ipad air. So I am not sure what version that latest was before 11.4--if 11.1.4.62 than I am ok to proceed

    I think

    Thanks TT2

11.1.3.8 Is the previous version.  What Windows version are you using.  Can you perform a Windows system restore?

I cannot do an effective system restore-I have something called powersuite which cleans up things in PC and that says I have a restore point by my system wil not do a system restore unless I am not doing it the right way.

You should always download iTunes directly from Apple's site at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ as linked in my earlier post. There is always a risk using third party sites for this. If you updated in December that was probably 11.1.3(.8).
