Jan 25, 2014 10:12 AM in response to B.Mantzby BDAqua,Hello,
Is this drive SATA 1.5 Gb/s compatible? What brand/model is it exactly?
If you hold alt or option key at bootup with the Install Disc in, does that show the Install Disc between the 3/4 citcle & the arrow?
Also, it's very likely the New drive is Advanced format, & 10.3 doesn't understand that, not even 10.4 Install Discs understand that, since it takes 10.4.11 or higher to do that, & 10.4.11 never came on an Install Disc.

Jan 26, 2014 11:00 AM in response to B.Mantzby BDAqua,Yes, it's a double problem, you need at least a 10.5 Install Disc to recognize the Advanced Format, then the trouble is it's SATA3 6.0 Gb/s, a jumper on pins 5&6 may slow it to SATA2 3.0 Gb/s, which may or may not work for a G5.
Bottom line is you must find 10.5 retail Install Disc.

Jan 26, 2014 12:38 PM in response to B.Mantzby BDAqua,Well, you need 2.2 TB or less, there are some others listed here, but have geard bad things about the new Hitachis & HGSTs, I guess that leaves Seagate or a couple of Toshiba drives...

Jan 27, 2014 11:27 AM in response to B.Mantzby rccharles,I had a panic kernel so i replaced my hd with a new one.
There are lots of reasons for a kernel panic. Why did you conclude it was the hd?
I'd try putting the old hd. Do you get more panics?
Reformat the old hd and reinstall.

Jan 28, 2014 2:01 AM in response to BDAquaby B.Mantz,No that doesn't work either.
The old hd has the tick of death and booting with alt doesn't show the hd. No kernel panic, just the folder with the questionmark.
Maybe something else wrong with my G5 because he can't see my old hd anymore?

Jan 28, 2014 10:44 AM in response to B.Mantzby BDAqua,Possibly, but if the Install Disc is in & you hold alt key at bootup, does that shoe the Install Disc as a boot choice?

Jan 28, 2014 10:53 AM in response to BDAquaby B.Mantz,Yes, it shows the Install Disc but no hd at this time. And when i click it the apple logo appears for some time and after that the circle with slash in it.
And not the guitar player slash.
