Q: Mac does not see my new hd

Is this drive SATA 1.5 Gb/s compatible? What brand/model is it exactly?

If you hold alt or option key at bootup with the Install Disc in, does that show the Install Disc between the 3/4 citcle & the arrow?

Also, it's very likely the New drive is Advanced format, & 10.3 doesn't understand that, not even 10.4 Install Discs understand that, since it takes 10.4.11 or higher to do that, & 10.4.11 never came on an Install Disc.

Yes, it's a double problem, you need at least a 10.5 Install Disc to recognize the Advanced Format, then the trouble is it's SATA3 6.0 Gb/s, a jumper on pins 5&6 may slow it to SATA2 3.0 Gb/s, which may or may not work for a G5.

Bottom line is you must find 10.5 retail Install Disc.

Well, you need 2.2 TB or less, there are some others listed here, but have geard bad things about the new Hitachis & HGSTs, I guess that leaves Seagate or a couple of Toshiba drives...

I had a panic kernel so i replaced my hd with a new one.

There are lots of reasons for a kernel panic.  Why did you conclude it was the hd?

I'd try putting the old hd.  Do you get more panics?

Reformat the old hd and reinstall.

Hmmm, can't remember if I asked this, but what is the 2z691-****-A number on the Install Disc?

And when i click it the apple logo appears for some time and after that the circle with slash in it.

What does the circle with the slash in it mean?
