Jan 26, 2014 11:27 AM in response to turingtest2by Zittx,Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
+ Apple compatibilities
+ iCloud
It seems that the new iTunes would not erase properly the old archives in order to install the new ones. iTunes 11.1.4 is 142mb compared to 122 to the earlier download. This must be compatible to Windows 8.1

Jan 26, 2014 12:16 PM in response to Zittxby Hcheacox,When I try to install iTunes 11.1.4, I get error message "Error writing to C:\...\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceService_main.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory." Also, I am unable to do anything to that file, in spite of the fact that there is only one account on my laptop and it is an administrator account.
I can't uninstall any of the programs listed by Zittx. For each one I get an error message "Error opening installation log file. Please verify that the specified log file location exists and is writeable." No log file location is specified. I'm running Windows 7 with all updates installed.

Jan 26, 2014 12:38 PM in response to Miztee7by johnsville,I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed. It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4). Please see and follow the procedure in the following article:http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reverting-previous-version-itunes-32590.html The previous version works beautifully.

Jan 26, 2014 12:49 PM in response to Hcheacoxby Zittx,I had the same hastle as you did. Be patient...
DO ALL AGAIN!
First do this:
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.
Remove all of these items in the following order:
1. iTunes
2. Apple Software Update
3. Apple Mobile Device Support
4. Bonjour
5. Apple Application Support
6. Apple compatibilities
7. iCloud
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Jan 26, 2014 1:02 PM in response to Zittxby turingtest2,I'm afraid my earlier advice to copy QTMovieWin.dll was premature. The revision is below...
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above then search the computer for copies of the file QTMovieWin.dll - you should only have one copy in the relevant folder for your system.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (32-bit Windows)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (62-bit Windows)
Delete any others and this should not only fix the problem, but prevent it from recurring on subsequent updates.

Jan 26, 2014 2:22 PM in response to turingtest2by lt55,Just wanted to thank-you for your helpful and clear advice on the latest iTunes update fiasco. Your advice worked though I had to uninstall Quicktime, Safari and iCloud control panel as well before I could delete the Apple folder in Common Files (x86).
The reinstall was sucessful and iTunes is up and working- it even mamaged a sync with my iPhone, by no means guaranteed nowadays!
Thank-you once again.

Jan 26, 2014 2:47 PM in response to Miztee7by IBidYouADuh,I've been uninstalling and re-installing all of the components listed in the previous posts, but nothing seems to be working for me. I running Windows Vista 32-bit and whenever the installation reaches the point where the Apple Mobile device can't start. I am logged in as an admin and I ran the installation as admin...nothing seems to be working. I guess I just have to wait for the next update.

Jan 26, 2014 3:01 PM in response to 5341008by MTK2,I also ran into multiple errors when updating to iTunes 11.1.4.62 latest update. Here is how I solved the problem. Take care when doing registry edits and back up your registry before you begin.
1. Follow the uninstall instructions on Apple Support at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 ...(a) followed the order of uninstall, (b) delete all the folders as instructed
2. I could not get Apple Mobile Device Support to uninstall. I even tried some 3rd-party uninstallers to no avail.
3. Started regedit (be cautious about editing your registry...you can make your system unbootable) and did a search for all instances/types (keys, values, data, etc of Apple Mobile Device Support and deleted everything regedit found found.
4. Ran CCleaner (www.piriform.com) and told it to "Fix" all registry errors (selected OK to back up registry).
5. Rebooted and verified that Apple Mobile Devices was no longer listed in the "View Installed Programs" list.
6. Downloaded the latest installer for iTunes and ran it.
7. It installed perfectly. No issues.
It seems the trick it to ensure that the Apple Mobile Device Support is completely removed from your registry and program tree. Best of luck.
