Why does my iPad 2 keep dropping wifi connection and even forgets wifi connection after iOS 7 update?

    The only thing that helped me was switching Wi-fi mode from 802.11n to 802.11g

    You can do this in router settings... Open in your browser 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

    Just wanted to add that I fixed my random wifi drops by changing my router settings from 20% to 40% and changing b/g/n to just b/g. Hope this helps.

    Disabling 802.11n on your wifi access point(s) is not a fix. It is a poor workaround of an Apple bug. Disabling 802.11n greatly reduces the performace of ALL wifi devices that connect to that access point, not just the iPad 2 that is having problems. Apple should step up and fix the problem. We know the problem can be fixed because iPad 2 devices worked fine before the latests iOS upgrade.

    I saw this fix on another post and can attest that it works.  I suffered from dropped connections and forgotten passwords, on both an Ipad1 and Ipad2, on both a Netgear and a TPlink router.  Solution - Always use the Other option to manually enter network name, security type and password.

    I had the same issue with intermittently losing my wifi connection at home from my iPad2 on ios version 7.0.4.  A couple of added notes regarding our home environment... we have two iPhones that do not have wifi connectivity issues.  The first is an iPhone 5S on 7.0.3 and the other is an iPhone 4 on 6.1.3.  Neither has had any wifi connectivity issues.  I also have a Dell laptop which connects without issue.

     

    My wifi router is a Linksys WRT54G.  It uses both 802.11b and 802.11g wireless network modes (aka "Mixed").

     

    After several months of dealing with this annoying wifi issue on the iPad, and trying numerous settings, resets, etc. I finally decided to try messing with the router instead.  It's a fairly old router, so I suspected that maybe the wifi issue was a result of the router needing an update.  Sure enough, the router was on a very outdated firmware from 2005.

     

    I logged into the Linksys router and conducted a firmware upgrade from the Administration menu.  I am now using firmware version 4.21.5 and it appears to have resolved my connectivity issue.

     

    For those who have not tried it yet, consider updating the firmware on your router.  It's possible the iPad is using some advanced WiFi parameters that your router's old firmware does not support.

    Like many people, I am having the same WIFI issues on IPAD2 with IOS7.

     

    Going to BG instead of N, may alleviate the scratch, but wont cure the bug.

    Hopefully Apple will fix this issue, sooner than later.

     

    I have 5 Apple devices in my house.

    The biggest selling point to me was, "Apple, it just works".

    In this tough market place, having a reliable product that just works is very important.

     

    I was a Nokia Fan and owned many, until the N96 flagship phone, which was dissapointing to say the least.

     

    Apple, really needs to lift its game, otherwise it will become insignificant to other international phone companies.

     

    Apple, don't follow in Nokias path.

    Get your **** together, and start making reliable products again.

    I've had such a difficult time with my iPad mini these last couple of months.

     

    My WiFi stays connected for 10-15 seconds tops, no matter what source I'm connected to.

     

    I've tried Router resets, Network resets, iPad resets with backups, and pretty much every tactic to be thought of.

     

    I took my iPad to this place called Connecting Point computers here where I live in Oregon, and he was baffled by the complete inability to stay connected for much more than 15 seconds. The fat lummox suggested I just buy a brand new iPad. LOL. What a determined salesman.

     

    Thanks bro, but I'm not in the market to throw down another 300 dollars for something that still not might work.

     

    Does anyone know if I send this to Apple that they will run diagnostics and potentially fix it? How much would it cost? Is that even a thing? Because at this point I'm so apathetic about the whole thing, I'm thinking of turning it into a fancy drink coaster.

    I also have exactly the same problem with my ipad4 (retina).

     

    I've tried all the ideas and excuses found on the web...  Resets, Restarts, Router firmware, Airplane Mode...  Tried them all...

     

    NOTHING WORKS.

     

    It was never really very good with ios6, but 7 is much worse.  I mistakenly downloaded ios7 thinking it might have fixed the problem.

     

    I have 3 desktop PC's running Win7, 1 laptop running WinXP, and an Android tablet that all connect fine.

     

    Come on Apple get your S**T together and get it sorted.

     

    As Seth, above has said, it's no more use than an expensive drink coaster.

     

    Still what do Apple care?  They've already got our money, now don't give a toss!!!

    Having a similar issue...

    I notice that people's issues are all different.

     

    Some people complain of their iPad not finding wifi at all, some people complain of having to be really near their router to pick up the signal, some people's ipads seem to forget the wifi setting, etc.

     

    My problem, which seems to be shared with some people who posted here, is that the device loses wifi connection once in a while for 10 to 20 seconds or so. After that, it automatically reconnects. I don't think the connection is really lost though. When I turn off the wifi altogether, Safari gives me the message that I am not connected to the internet. But when this problem is happening (those 10~20 seconds) the Safari error I get is that the server cannot be found. So definitely not the same thing as my wifi connection getting dropped altogether. It must be some sort of network settings or software issue.

     

    I never had this problem since the day I bought my iPad 2. It started happening a little while ago, after I had upgraded to iOS 7.0.4. Before that, I was on iOS 5. Never had this problem.

    Tried resetting the network settings, resetting the whole settings, restoring the device, with or without iTunes backup restore (set up as new iPad). Tried various router settings, tried resetting the router, all to no avail.

     

    Funny thing is, even after upgrading to iOS 7.0.4, I don't think I had this problem. It was a few weeks after I upgraded that I started having the problem, and it just won't go away, device restore after restore.

     

    Sigh...

    I am in the same boat. My wife is sitting right next to me with her ipad zipping through different pages on the web. She has not updated her ipad to latest version. What makes me the most confused is how all of the comments on this Apple site get no responses from actual Apple techs!!!  What's the point, I'm not here for amateur advice. I want my overpriced device to work! Show us some support already and tell us how to fix this bug the Apple update has caused.

    You're only going to get amateur advice here, I'm afraid, as this forum is manned by volunteer users like you. Have you taken your device to an Apple store for evaluation?
