Q: Belkin bluetooth keypad

Has anyone managed to get their MacBook Pro to pair with Belkins F8T067 bluetooth keypad with Maverick 10.9 ?

I just bought one today... from an Apple Store.... took it home and spent a very frustrating hour trying to set it up, and failed miserably.

I successfully got the MacBook Pro to pair with the keypad, but it couldn't identify it correctly and the OS only offered 3 different standard keyboard options, none of which were appropriate. In fact the "idiot mode" setup trying identify the keyboard kept insisting that I only needed to press the key to the left of the shift key to identify it.....which of course doesn't exist as its a KEYPAD dummy !

I can't believe that apple has completely overlooked that their flagship new OS doesn't seem to support bluetooth keypads that they sell in all their Apple Stores.

And I can't believe also that Belkin make absolutely no mention of this problem and a solution on their website and their setup info on their website is obviously dated.

Come on people.... this kind of screw-up is what we like to poke fun at our competition for !!

Anyone got any suggested solutions for me ?

For what it's worth, I've seen several users say replacing the batteries fixed the issue for them.  As that didn't make sense, I didn't go to that level. It seemed more reasonable that it wasn't the replacing of the batteries, but the complete loss of power that triggered the change in behavior.  So, I removed the batteries, waited a couple of seconds, put em back in and voila, once it connected, I could finally type on it for the first time.

The one disappointemnt that I had right away is that while there are Home and End keys that do take you to the beginning and end of the line, SHIFT Home and SHIFT End does NOT select to the beginning or end of the line.

I plan on using ControllerMate to make up the difference. Unfortunately, ergonomic gamer keyboards by Logitech aren't supporting Macs any longer albeit the drivers too often started out badly broken and some still ended up using ControllerMate.

I spent several hours trouble-shooting the same problem - talked to a couple Apple Care people and they tried several things without any luck. So they finally had me call Belkin. Of course I couldn't reach Belkin's Tech Support - and after almost two hours on hold they promissed to have someone call me back. Chuckle. That hasn't happened so don't waste your time calling them.

Here's what worked: Although no one suggested this unfortunately, I "right-mouse-clicked" on the bluetooth device name (in System Preferences/Bluetooth) which brought up three options - I selected "Connect". That worked right away.

I'm new to Macs so this is just me "guessing", but it seems everyone expected the computer and device to automatically find eachother when in discovery mode and connect just like all the other devices did. It seems this "forced" the computer to look for the keypad. I've only had to try this once, but it worked 1 out of 1 times.

I'm interested to hear if this works for anyone else having the same problem.

I'm able to get the iMac (running Mavericks 10.9.1) to connect to the Beklin keypad by going to Apple / System Preferences / Bluetooth, then "right-mouse" clicking on the device and selecting "Connect". I have to do this frequently but it works every time for me.

I did get a call back from Belkin and they are investigating this.

What wortked for me was taking the batteries out, then waiting a minute before replaced the batteries. Once I did this the keypad simply connected itself without my having to go to press the power button on the Belkin Keypad or going to System Preferences/Keyboard. I was able to verify it's being connected in SystemPreferences/Bluetooth, and was able to rename it there.

I had the same problem but was able to get it to work after reading the numerous posts.

I don't know why it worked but what I did was to take the batteries out, then waited a minute before replaced them. When I did I reversed the polarity and pressed the power button on the keypad, which of course didn't turn on. However when I then replaced the batteries in the correct position, the keypad simply connected itself without my having to go to any control panel or press the power button. I have no idea why it worked but it did. When I went to System Preferences/Bluetooth the keypad showed up as connected and I was able to not only verify it's being connected, I was able to rename it as "Belkin numeric keypad" there. It's worked fine ever since.

PROBLEM: keypad connecting but not working.

SOLUTION: take batteries out, count to 10, put them back in.

Major gradititude to @jmdilley & this forum for alleviating a serious headache brewing from Belkin frustration.

Did the same, open the box, installed the batteries, turned on the key pad, opened the Bluetooth settings in the System Preferences and manually connected the Belkin keypad. Worked like a charm !

Extremely weird to keep seeing all these posts saying all they had to do was take batteries in and out.  When I experienced this last October with the Belkin, I didn't have a problem syncing with Bluetooth, I had a problem with it then suddenly not responding or jumping all over the screen when you hit the keys and just acting crazy.

I did put in new batteries a few times, and re-synced quite a few times, before I gave up and bought the LMP which has never had an issue.

The only thing I can think of is that Belkin made a bad batch of these that hit the market last Fall, which has since been fixed and no longer in the market, which is why everyone for the past few months seems to be having no problem.

    Weird....

Belkin has put out an updated version of the keyboard, which is in the Apple stores since a few weeks. With all this nonsense about having to remove batteries to get it to work, I have given up on it completely. I need something that works not needs to be played with all the time to work.

    @BertingAP   Get this:

    LMP Bluetooth Keypad Model WKP-1314

You can order it from Newegg.com

Works like a charm - I have several of them and there is no fuss...
