Jan 26, 2014 9:34 PM in response to GeoffreyS56by aequorea,I did not realize this might be related to my install of Mavericks. I also can no longer access RW files in Finder or Preview without crashing the display. I thought it might be a problem with my data card so I replaced it but the new card gives me the same result. Does anyone have any insight?

Jan 27, 2014 3:52 AM in response to aequoreaby GeoffreyS56,As an update to this, I can report that Aperture 3.5 handles the raw files in question without incident, but the Preview is still behaving badly.
I have recently and happily installed Mavericks on a 2013 macbook Air, and the same raw files are OK both in Preview and Aperture. So I am looking at either: my 2008 iMac is too old, or not enough memory (4GB).
or Preview app is screwed up.
There is a suggested probe and possible fix for Preview from Linc Davis on this thread:

I will let you know how it goes if I get to it.

Jan 27, 2014 5:03 AM in response to GeoffreyS56by aequorea,I tried from Photoshop and I can see the files but they're grayed out. I also checked out the discussion thread that you suggested and may head that direction but I need a big block of time for that. I also have a 2008 Mac with 4 GB but I never had issues with these files before Mavericks.
