After hours of trying to get iTunes re-installed, I managed to find this site and on reading your advice, I followed exactly the same steps and it has worked!! Hope it has worked for the other users on this site too.

Jan 27, 2014 11:07 AM in response to rjmacphersonby coml,Perfect, thanks. Just follow this user's instuctions.....
"ITunes tried to automatically update today and failed and then I was also getting the MSVCR80.dll error
After trying many things I finally removed all Apple software
- iTunes
- Apple Software Update
- Apple Mobile Device Support
- Bonjour
- Apple Application Support
I was then able to finally successfully install the latest version of iTunes and the software installed correctly and the error went away.
I hope this works for you as well."

Jan 27, 2014 11:13 AM in response to JoWalkerby Cyerin,Thanks for the advice. I have been at this all afternoon, install, delete, re-instal, etc but nothing worked until I read your suggestion on using IOBit uninstaller + powerclean. I deleted anything on my computer that had Apple.inc on it! Yes a bit drastic but itunes has now installed successfuly and all my files are there.
So thanks again all

Jan 27, 2014 2:11 PM in response to penelope184by Vaquero,Windows 7and 8 (Missing file MSVCR80.dll) Do not download this file from the Internet it is in the Itunes setup)
I had the same problem and tried numerous things and recommendations from the forums and nothing worked. This is what worked for me. Try this before you try more complicated ways.
Uninstall Itunes. Go to Control Panel and then open Programs and Features. Uninstall Itunes, then uninstall Apple Application Support, then uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and then uninstall Apple Software Update.
Restart the computer.
Download the latest version of Itunes and install it.
Open Itunes.

Jan 27, 2014 2:19 PM in response to penelope184by penelope184,Great that this has generated so many replies and glad some people are having success, but I'm not.
This is about the 4th or 5th time I'm trying to sort this out, and I'm at the point where I've uninstalled everything, rebooted, and have downloaded and run the latest iTunes .exe and have unchecked the automatic updates option. It's gone through some installation bits but my next problem is that I have this message:
"Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to start system services."
Options I have are to 'Abort', 'Retry' or 'Ignore'.
Retry doesn't do anything, Abort seems to take the installation back a step but then it just comes back to the same message, and Ignore lets the installation continue to the end.
However, it has not worked again. Same MSVCR80.dll error message pops up.
I'm at my wits end... Help!
