I have been searching for the solution and found ones either for 10.6.5 or 10.7 but nothing for 10.6.8. Not sure if Airport works. I dont want to invest in a wifi router in any time soon.. so please help !!!

    Hello,

    Try these two first...

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...

    Reset the Firewire bus

If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:

    1. Shut the machine down.

    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.

    3. leave it for 10 minutes.

    4. Connect back up and reboot.

If we get the KB back, try this...

    PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

Can you find a cheap USB KB to try, we're sort of stuck otherwise... even a PC KB should tell us something.

thnkx.. but what could be the root cause? I am need help with the ethernet cable issue as well.. My observations so far are that I was able to access internet for about an hour a month ago. that session lasted for a hour and abruptly both ethernet and ps2 keyboard  stopped working. are there any OS updates that installed during that period that I need to uninstall ?

I don't know the root cause, but it doesn't sound good.

At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Network>Ethernet, what does it say?

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

    Any change?

I think I'd try removing the ethernet interface with the minus icon, reboot & add ethernet again.

OK, good luck, it sounds like the Ethernet card is shot.
