Q: iTunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:

1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem

and

2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.

This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.

There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.

Thanks

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Use this link for the repair: iTunes en andere softwareonderdelen verwijderen en opnieuw installeren in Windows Vista, Windows 7 of Windows 8

I was unable to uninstall the Mobile Support file as well.  And I was unable to download iTunes.
Uninstall what you can, reboot, and try a different browser to download iTunes.  I couldn't download it with Mozilla Firefox, but I COULD using Internet Explorer.  And it works fine now.

    Maybe that will help.

Had same issue- tried multiple reinstalls- and add removing-  with no luck

Only after reading rjmacpherson post and removing all the apple software did the fresh install work.

    Thanks

Thank you, pcbugfixer.  You solved my problem.  But like many others have said, I think Apple should have done a better job on the update.  We shouldn't have to go through the whole uninstall/reinstall/download again process.  Especially those of us who have AT&T "high-speed" (ha-ha) DSL, but that's a whole nother rant.  In any case, thank you for pointing me to the correct process to recover iTunes.

Remove Bonjour-  Bonjour will keep you from being able to uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support.

Simply removing Bonjour should clear up the issue preventing the removal of the Apple Mobile Device Support not being able to be uninstalled.

I have spent over 10 hours on this and tried all the fixes to the letter but no joy.

I am at my wits end. MSVCR80! Is still missing . I have the icon on my desktop saying iTunes was not installed correctly Error 7 ( windows error 126)

I have uninstalled several times in the correct order all the apple installations on my PC ( xp7 32bit) and even rebooted after each one. I have turned off norton firewall and virus protection. I am now close to abandoning all hope and using Google Music, what a joke. Apple - this is a disgrace. You need to look at all the comments on this forum and sort it out quick.

rjmacpherson  I did exactly what you said.  I removed/deleted all my Apple Programs from my PC then reinstalled iTunes and it cured it.  I even had ALL my music still in situ.  RESULT!!!!!

That's not really the issue. Even if you put the right version in the right location you'll probably swap one problem for another. You should really follow this repair process...

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

    • iTunes
    • Apple Software Update
    • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    • Bonjour
    • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

    Please note:

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

    G'day SevenI,

Putting a copy of the "msvcr80.dll" file in the System32 folder will NOT fix the iTunes and related errors !!!!!!

Print a copy of the correct instructions, follow them precisely and it will fix the iTunes errors.

    G'day kraboff.kir,

    1. 1. Stop taking bad advice and their shortcut or quick fixes !
    2. 2. print of a copy of the corect full instructions and and follow them.

HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP

    or

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

We seem to have a lot of "Tail End Charlies" coming in with shortcuts and quick fixes, these sometimes work, however I doubt that they fully and correctly fix ALL the related iTunes and System errors.

Fix your errors correctly or don't - do as you please ☺

MSVCR80.dll "is missing from your computer".

Apple Application Support 3.0 (When this installs) the iTunes Set up REMOVES the following:

    Apple Application Support 2.3.4 (Program)

    Apple (Net) 4/23/11 1.8.4.3 (Driver)

    Apple, Inc. (USB) 12/12/2013 6.0.9999.65

the new version of iTunes are deleting the old iTunes Drivers but Not installing the New Version of iTunes Drivers thus giving users the .dll error and windows Error.
