Jan 28, 2014 5:35 PM in response to rjmacphersonby mesamuels,This seems to have worked for me as well. iTunes stopped working today all of a sudden, and reinstall failed. Running on 64-bit Windows 7. From the uninstall control panel removed iTunes plus the other Apple stuff and Bonjour, had no trouble uninstalling the Mobile Device Service which others have reported problems doing. I then used ccCleaner to clean out apple-related registry errors, cleaned various caches and Trash, then restarted. Could then reinstall iTunes 64 bit v11.1.4.62. Note: during reinstall there is a default toggle to automatically update iTunes and all other Apple software, which I manually de-selected before continuing. iTunes has started correctly several times now this evening, will have to see if it is stable.

Jan 28, 2014 5:36 PM in response to Chriscic42by pcbugfixer,G'day Chriscic42,
Nice try, however like I said before in one of my posts,
"I doubt that Apple will release a newer version other than v11.1.4.62 as it works on millions of other systems and only a few Tens of Thousands+ User experience the problem."
If you want to wait don't hold your breath ☺
In the mean time you could fix your problems with the correct instructions.

If you expanded the blue items in the document they would have said this,
Steps
1. Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and restart your computer:
- iTunes
- Apple Software Update
- Apple Mobile Device Support
- Bonjour
- Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended effects.
To remove these components, follow these steps:
2. Make sure that iTunes and its related components are completely uninstalled
Removing iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel should remove all its supporting files. After following the previous steps, you should confirm that the following files and folders have been removed. If any are left behind, remove them now:
- C:\Program Files\Bonjour\
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\
- C:\Program Files\iTunes\
- C:\Program Files\iPod\
Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when you try to delete this folder.
If you aren't sure how to remove these files, you can follow these steps:
3. Reinstall iTunes and its related components
After you make sure that iTunes is completely uninstalled, restart your computer and install the latest version of iTunes.
If by chance, which I doubt, your XP is a 64bit then also,
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll need to confirm that the following folders have been removed:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\
- C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\
- C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod\
Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when trying to delete this folder.
Now if you remember to Re-Boot after each Step, i.e. after Stem1, and after Step 2 and follow each step precisely, you will fix your problems.
Print of a copy of the correct full instructions and follow them. Tick off each item as you perform it, this way you should not make any mistakes.

Apps and your Library are if you like seperate from the iTunes errors.
Only uninstall and delete what is contained in the instructions for your OS (Operating System) and it should all be back in place for you.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis
I agree 100% Backup is always a good idea !

Good post and reminder regarding Firefox (Mozilla).
The failure of Firefox is part of the problem, i.e. errors in the system caused by iTunes errors !

So how long before you need to update the iTunes and have the same issues with a later / newer version ?
- Think about it !
I hope you did not lose any data files by restoring your system.
Whichever you do, the options are yours ☺

Jan 28, 2014 8:02 PM in response to rjmacphersonby rebel99,I had the same issue as Penelope, followed the instructions to remove all Apple programs, did so through Windows control panel, rebooted then downloaded Itunes (for the 6th time), unchecked the auto update box and itunes is working - my library was in tact and all appears to be working fine.
