Jan 29, 2014 3:39 AM in response to penelope184by Kraig141,I restored my PC to a last known restore point. I went back two days. This undid the itunes update and I will wait to update iTunes until Apple resolves its problem.
I first attempted to remove all apple applications but could not remove quicktime. I purchased quicktime pro and removing it would've removed the license for it.
I'm sure Apple will receive enough backlash from this update that another update will be along soon.

Jan 29, 2014 5:16 AM in response to pcbugfixerby penelope184,Thanks pcbugfixer - I used detailed instructions from one of your earlier posts. I basically had to delete Apple related folders in my Programme Files which were still present after I had uninstalled all the Apple programmes.
I reinstalled iTunes which then worked. HOWEVER, I have a new problem which is that iTunes freezes 5 seconds after I open it.
I'm going to have to go through the whole process again tonight, but I will deselect the automatic updates option in the installation process. If that doesn't work then I'll install an earlier version of iTunes.
I'll post results later...

However I should point out for others that the problem was only solved by deleting the c:\Programme Files\Bonjour etc However the biggest problem with that was when it came to C:\Programme Files\Common Files\Apple . This directory contains many subfolders which had to be deleted individually. I noticed that one file which had cropped up in Error mesages APSDaemon was in there and was happily deleted. There is a subdirectory called Internet Services which coule no be deleted as it was but when I opened it up I managed to delete all sub directories and files apart from a directory called ShellStreams.resources and a file called ShellStreams.dll which were possibly in use by another programme even though I had no other programmes running. Anyway, ahving deleted all that was humanly possible, I rebooted and re-installed iTunes not forgetting to uncheck the Automatic Updates box and giving Administrator rights ( that took me some figuring out too. I downloaded via IE and saved the download rather than instructed it to run as I had done in the past, I then found the saved download and right clicked on it, and clicked on the Run as Administrator box). Lo and behold, it worked!!!! I hope these added instructions help some other poor soul like me!!!! Good luck! Thanks again to pcbugfix - top man

QuickTime had nothing to do with this iTunes problem, nor is your Library or are your Apps compromised, i.e. they also are not affected by this iTunes issue !!
As for waiting for another update, don't hold your breath ☺
I suggest that you backup your or reinstall your QuickTime Pro, i.e. recover it if needed and make sure it's working.
Then follow the respective instructions in, ONLY if you have run the updater and experience the same problem !!
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
or
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
If you have not run the updater and do not have a corrupted iTunes installation, then follow these instructions to put in a new / latest version iTunes installation
As you are at a restore point simply uninstall the current iTunes,
- After this you will not need to delete the folders,
- Then re-boot
- After you have rebooted, download the latest iTunes from the apple.com site (http://www.apple.com/lae/itunes/download/) obviously save it first and then run it !
- You now have the latest iTunes and this will fix your update problems as well and any new updates should also work.

Thanks for letting me know as to your status with the iTunes issue.
Sorry to hear that you encountered a hickie with your previous corrections.
I did not have to deselect the automatic updates option in the installation process on any of my systems (Win XP to Win 8e) or on my 16 customers systems when I fixed the problems with my ScreenConnect (Remote Desktop connection) the updater worked fine, i.e. the "Apple Software Update" performed the task and told me that all my apple Software was “Up to Date”.
As you said, let me know how you go with the new installation.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See the user tip Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suggested strategy.
If you have difficulty downloading the iTunes setup file try clearing your browser's cache or using an alternate browser.
If content is missing from the library following the repair see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.
For device connectivity issues following the repair see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5.
MobileMe is a discontinued service and should be removed if present. See HT2992: MobileMe: Uninstalling the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows for details.

Thanks for the information from Apple on this issue, "WHAT A CROCK " i.e. the article for the fix " TS5376: iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open." besides a lot of Bull Shift with moving the dll files "Check for .dll files", they then go to the same fixes we have been performing all along, "Uninstall and reinstall iTunes" (both items poorly explained and the later not expanded when you go to it)
Trust Apple to come up with a poorly explained fix that only an Advanced User can follow - poor job Apple, you could have done better with the explanations and the "Check for .dll files" was unnecessary when performing the procedure outlined in the " Uninstall and reinstall iTunes " instructions !
I recommend that Forum Members follow the original instructions outlined in this Forum Topic, i.e. the respective instruction for their OS (Operating Systems) given in,
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
or
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Both are straight forward and eliminate, what I consider to be superfluous rubbish, the need to perform the "Check for .dll files" tasks.
You mentioned "Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy" this is a good idea, however simply copying the existing Library to another hard drive or hard drive partition, and then performing the respective un-install tasks etc. and after you have installed the new iTunes, check your Library and if for some reason it is not intact, simply copy it back to the folder on your master C; drive partition usually located in the "\My Documents\My Music\iTunes" folder.
The "If content is missing from the library following the repair see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash." should not be needed as described in the above paragraph, however is handy to have if the library gets corrupted. NB: I have never known this to happen !
As to the "For device connectivity issues following the repair see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5." This would be needed if for some reason your iPad or your iPhone is not recognised by the new iTunes installation and is then followed in sections 3, 4 and 5, i think to ensure you succeed in your iPad and iPhone connection in iTunes.
The "MobileMe is a discontinued service and should be removed if present. See HT2992: MobileMe: Uninstalling the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows for details." The “MobileMe” is not in the new iTunes installation and would only still be / have remained on the system if the original instructions for un-installing the corrupted iTunes had not been followed correctly.
All in all, thanks for your very helpful post on the " iTunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)". issue and I am sure that other Forum Members will appreciate the input from you☺

I'd have preferred a specific clean-up tool, but I had hoped the official guidance would be all in one place and easy to follow. If clearing the .dlls can be done without "file in use" errors, and as result ensures that the subsequent removal and reinstall processes work reliably then it should be better than the standard instructions in HT1923 which often fail to remove Apple Mobile Device Service. I should do what I meant to do on day one and wrap the information above into another user tip with both sets of advice. At least that way I can amend it as new details come to light.
In the last five days I've seen quite a number of lost library and non-connecting device issues. There is usually a (much smaller) cluster of such problems after every iTunes update. Including the information now should mean those affected don't have to ask for further advice. Likewise, neither my advice not Apple's has included removing MobileMe, but those who still have the control panel installed have found it to be an additional problem at this time.
On the backup front I'm using the opportunity not only to suggest that people backup now but also take on board the idea of keeping that backup refreshed in future in a way that is less painful than copying the entire iTunes folder over and over again. If you're backed up and for some reason the .itl is wiped out you only need to restore that from the backup, not the entire library. The start of that paragraph is also there to reassure people.
