If your iPod nano is not recognized by your PC, start with the troubleshooting steps at this link:

Feb 23, 2014 8:20 AM in response to lewisb54by patnmel,This came from another thread, but worked for me. Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62. Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update). Reboot, and reinstall iTunes. It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano. Good luck.
