Q: iTunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:

1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem

and

2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.

This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.

There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.

Thanks

.

    G'day Derw86,

I have no idea why you are in your post responding to "LeisaBC"

You should be following the instructions outlined in my original posts on page 2 of this Topic = https://discussions.apple.com/message/24651140#24651140

or one of "turingtest2" posts on page 7 = https://discussions.apple.com/message/24678326#24678326

or you can try the shortcut method by "rjmacpherson" on page 4 = https://discussions.apple.com/message/24663853#24663853

Questions for you to answer please,

What is your Operating system and service pack version ?

What Internet Security / Anti-Virus do you have installed ?

Which Browser are you using to download the iTunes installer file ?

    - from http://www.apple.com/lae/itunes/download/

    - With this information the help you get can be more specific in what you need to do.

    Regards

    G'day turingtest2,

Sorry, I don't think this, Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates, is any better, in that it again goes to unnecessary detail and information that we previously covered in your post on page 9 and my reply on the same page !

This post makes  Forum members believe that there are new fixes for this problem when there are none, i.e. not any new fixes and as previously stated,

"WHAT A CROCK " i.e. the article for the fix " TS5376: iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open." besides a lot of Bull Shift with moving the dll files "Check for .dll files", they then go to the same fixes we have  been performing all along, "Uninstall and reinstall iTunes" (both items poorly explained and the later not expanded when you go to it)"

The "Check for .dll files" is unnecessary !, in my opinion !!

And I said it also on my reply on page 9,

"I recommend that Forum Members follow the original instructions outlined in this Forum Topic, i.e. the respective instruction for their OS (Operating Systems) given in,

HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP

    or

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8"

turingtest2, you went to a lot of trouble creating the "Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates" unfortunately I think it is overdone with too much and some unnecessary, and in some instances, duplication of suggested tasks which may confuse some Users.

Stick to the original simple versions of correcting the problem, I think and recommend.

The obviously made me say all this; however take it as constructive criticism ☺☺☺.

    You can't please everyone...

Apple's new KB is not ideal, but it is there for those that are reluctant to trust "amateurs". The user tip mechanism means I can update the advice I give which I can't do for regular posts. In my original posts on this topic I linked through to HT1923 and HT1925 but I didn't include the folder removal steps in my own advice because I hadn't needed them. They are hidden by a disclosure triangle with the title "Make sure that iTunes and its related components are completely uninstalled". I think it is easy for people to skip over them. I certainly didn't bother the first time I repaired the update. There are subtle differences in my latest advice, over and above Apple's, which come from repeatedly testing the instructions. For example they make no reference to removing iCloud or MobileMe.

The official advice also advises a full tear-down for QTMovieWin.dll related errors that can be fixed by deleting a single file. Again my tip tries to offer better advice in this regard.

And yes, I've packed in a lot, because I'd rather be able to point somebody to the tip once and have them find all the information that they might need. I'm always happy to try and answer follow-up questions, but I'm not always here.

I've potentially got hundreds of machines affected by this issue (HiEd environment where iTunes is part of our default build) so a complete removal/reinstall of iTunes and the related components is a pretty big deal.  I've fixed four instances of this so far this morning and expect to hear about more from my users.  Thus far I haven't been able to make any of the suggestions work accept for the complete removal/reinstallation of everything.  In cases like mine it sure would be nice to have a simpler fix that could be scripted out and deployed to all machines.

If I figure something out I'll be sure to report back.  For the moment I'll just work on a script to uninstall all of the products in a single click.

Should you succeed in getting your script to work I'd certainly be interested to know more.

Hey I finally got an older vesion of itunes to work!!! 10.7  x64 for windows 7
After uninstalling all apple products even  quicktime
I had to delete everything from (program files, and program  files x64, program data,)
And all downloads from apple, and I went in to search deleted  other stuff from apple, and itunes
But definently not my itunes library and Playlist
Down loaded 10.7 x64 for windows 7, but checked (do not start  when done)
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my  PC
I ran geek tech tool box same as reg cure pro, also PC Tools  registry cleaner, and CC Cleaner
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my  PC
And wallah... It finally works, and I Love the older version  anyways.
Easier to download and transfer  music!!!!!

I've had 2 more instances of this to refine a scripted fix to this.  This won't really be useful for most of the people on here with a one off problem but it's working for me in a multi-user environment.  Drop this into a .bat file and execute it as an administrator:

    @echo off

    echo Close outlook before proceeding

    Pause

    echo Unistalling iTunes 11.1.4.62

    MsiExec.exe /X{0D924CB2-2EA4-4044-BAF7-770202D6BD0D} /passive

    echo Unistalling Bonjour 3.0.0.10

    MsiExec.exe /X{6E3610B2-430D-4EB0-81E3-2B57E8B9DE8D} /passive

echo Uninstalling Mobile Device Support 7.1.0.32

    MsiExec.exe /X{FE86CB0C-FCB3-4358-B4B0-B0A41E33B3DD} /passive

echo Uninstalling Apple Software Update 2.1.3.127

    MsiExec.exe /X{789A5B64-9DD9-4BA5-915A-F0FC0A1B7BFE} /passive

echo Uninstalling Apple Application Support 3.0

    MsiExec.exe /X{A922C4B7-50E0-4787-A94C-59DBF3C65DBE} /passive

I've got another command running after this that re-installs iTunes but it's specific to my environment (Using NiNite Pro for any who are familiar).  Not the elegant fix I'm hoping for but at least it's a "one click" solution.

Do you happen to know if the script would succeed even when, for example, Apple Mobile Device Support doesn't want to uninstall? Do you run a folder cleaning phase also?

I haven't had any instances where Mobile Device support hasn't uninstalled nor have I needed to do any "folder cleanup" on the 5 instances that I've fixed thus far.  On a couple of them I checked after uninstalling all of the products to see if files remainiend in Program Files and Program Files (x86) and there have been none remaining not even in "Common Files".  I haven't needed a reboot either.
