Q: iOS 7 Location Based Reminders aren't working

I am having trouble getting location based reminders to work on iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. I have allowed for it to use my location and refresh in the background. Reminders with set times and dates work without any problems. Any ideas about how to fix this problem?

So, curiously, it sounds like, if you want a location-based reminder to go off more reliably, you should "introduce your iPhone," so to speak, to all of the public Wi-Fi networks in that vicinity (make it automatically join them).  For example, there's a Starbucks near that grocery store...

Maybe turning back on "ask to join" might help...

Has someone called Apple and got a ticket assigned for this defect? I looked through this thread and didn't see anyone has done this.

Yes, I contacted support, ticket was opened, response was "this is what you get now" with location based routing.

Please elaborate. Also, location based routing is a new term to me. Is that the same as saying location based alerts?

This seems to be handling much like "Find my friends" was handling with the app needing to be open to work as it did prior to iOS 7. Apple changed some background feature/setting and the app returned to pre iOS 7 functionality and expectations.

I tried all the the solutions offered in this thread and none worked. The Reminders app still had to be open in order for the outlined arrow to be in the status bar.  What finally worked for me was simply resetting the settings.  General>Reset>Reset All Settings.  I created a reminder using Siri and the outlined arrow is in the status bar AND the Reminders app is NOT open.

Never mind, this DID work at first but an hour later it is back to only working if the Reminders app is open.

I did what it says here.. I reset the privacy & location then I keep reminders open in the multitask and have my background refresh set to on for my reminders.  It works for the most part but ONLY when I unlock my phone, then the reminders pop up. It will not remind me unless my phone is unlocked.  Is anyone else finding this?

Check under Settings - Notification Center. Make sure Reminders is under Include section and click Reminders and the last setting. Make sure you allow it to notify when the lock screen is on.

Recently went to an Apple store and discussed my similar problems with ios7-iphone5 and techs didn't have any insight to have Reminders function as well as ios6 with same phone! I think the engineers need to look at it more closely;hence battery usage prevails on the negative side.

Balismir....So does that mean I no longer need to keep reminders open in the multi-task area since I would now have it included in the notification center?

It seems @ this point there is no clear cut answer;it works @ times with different screens in background, foreground etc. Whatever works best.

Apple's best app and they've really screwed it up.

This worked for me.  I think it works for those who get the "calendar cannot do it" error message.  (I've forgotten the actual errort message but something like that."

I posted this reply over on one of the other forums dealing with this same question so I thought I would repeat it here, but in the meantime I did some "work" on my phone...

I have an iPhone 5S running iOS 7.0.x (I think 3) on Verizon.

I have had, all the time, the background notifications that you speak of turned ON. I just went in and turned them both OFF, turned my phone OFF, turned my phone back on, re-turned on both the main and reminder settings, turned the phone off, then back on. ALL to the same result - nothing!

    Here is what happens:

    Go to Reminders App

    Set a new reminder

to remind me at a location (arrive at home)

press "Details" and "Done" and it goes back to the Reminer home screen

When I FIRST get back to the Reminders home screen the "Arriving: Home" appears but within seconds (without ever leaving the Reminders app) that notation simply dissapears...

Do you have any further suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Keith
