Q: Can't link text boxes anymore

Just upgraded to the new Pages and can't find a way to link text boxes anymore like is described here:

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/pages-linking-text-boxes

Am I missing something, or is it really not possible anymore?

    It's true, text box linking is gone. I have found, however, that you can create a text box and in the Layout tab in the inspector on the right, you can choose how many columns you would like the text box to have. Fortunately, even though the formarly linked text boxes cannot link anymore, the text still appears properly in previously created documents.

    I'm also extremely disappointed and frustrated with the loss of the ability to link text boxes. It's not like the function is a minor thing. Back to 4.3 for me.

    Chiming in to express my deep disappointment that this feature was removed. I have a 4-page (8 half-pages) imposed template that I paste text into to form a booklet I use once a year. Opened it in the Pages and it broke all the links. Thankfully when I installed 5 it did not delete 4.3.

    Apple, I sure hope you're listening in on this thread.

    I think this is the worst thing that "Apple have done". I'm so disappointed. I lost a lot these days (time, money and energy) in finding the solution to make the boxes connected. I felt so bad. It was been months that i'm working on paper works and now i dont know what to do.

    Apple please put this feature back.

    Wrong place to ask.

    Rate and review Pages 5 in the App Store or provide Pages Feedback through the link in the software.

    Disappointed to see that the major update to Pages has still not brought back this key feature.

    Tell Apple in the App Store.

    I also discovered this discouraging new UN-FEATURE! I have a template for a newsletter created in an earlier version that would be very easy to update to a new newsletter if text box linking was available. BUT NO! I will have to rate version 5.1 a failure. APPLE, PUT TEXT BOX LINKING BACK IN.

    Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.

    Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.

    Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=3527487677f0c 6fa05b6297cd00f8eb9&mforum=iworktipsntrick

    Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

    I'm the OP here.

    If you really need this feature, do what PeterBreis0807 said in the comment just above mine. I've marked it as the answer to this thread.

    Otherwise, I would recommend that you look at Apple's new Pages 5.0 templates and structure your documents like those. I was able to recreate my website proposal template to use the normal document flow (rather than linked text boxes) and it's fine now. The text flows from page to page and I add text boxes for asides and positioned text.

    In a way, it works better than my previous linked-text-boxes proposal.

    However, I know that not all situations will be exactly like mine. So, use Pages '09 (like Peter said) and blow up in your App Store reviews all you want.

    Jamon, it's fine that Apple have introduced a new way of constructing templates, but it is not fine that they have effectly forced eveyone to use it by removing features that didn't deserve to be removed.

    I enjoyed using text box linking in Pages, and found it superior to managing text areas to MS Word, and why Apple would choose to remove this feature is beyond me.

         You've got to be kidding me!

         My old iMac, which I love, has been getting creaky and doing strange things, so I forked over the money for a shiny new iMac with all the latest bells and whistles -- and guess what? I hate it! I could do so many things so easily with Pages '09! This "new and improved" version is a total bummer. I have only used the new computer for a couple of days and on just one newsletter, but I have already discovered that:

    1.  you can't link text boxes;

    2.  you can't add or diminish the space between lines;

    3.  there is no longer a ruler along the side of the page, only across the top;

    4.  the choices in the color palatte are negligible, and it is very time consuming to get the same color from page to page using the color wheel;

    5.  the menu bar at the top of the of the page and the inspector functions in the new version are seriously inadequate.

         If I were to continue to use Pages 5 I'm sure I'd be able to add more complaints to this list; but, frankly, I'm ready to box up the computer and send it back!

        Whoever at Apple designed this should be sent packing to Microsoft ASAP!

    1.  you can't link text boxes;

         √ Correct

    2.  you can't add or diminish the space between lines;

        X Yes you can as before with Line spacing

    3.  there is no longer a ruler along the side of the page, only across the top;

         X Reintroduced in Pages 5.1 but you have to turn it on everytime in Preferences.

    4.  the choices in the color palatte are negligible, and it is very time consuming to get the same color from page to page using the color wheel;

         X The color wheel is available through the rainbow circle icon. Use color swatches.

    5.  the menu bar at the top of the of the page and the inspector functions in the new version are seriously inadequate.

         √ There is a lot buried deep within the UI, but yes it is short of what Pages '09 had. The Object Styles are a plus though.

         If I were to continue to use Pages 5 I'm sure I'd be able to add more complaints to this list; but, frankly, I'm ready to box up the computer and send it back!

    For a more complete list of ommisions:

    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewtopic.php?p=674&mforum=iworktips ntrick#674

    Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

    Rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.
