I know how frustrating this is, but you have to be patient. Please continue to try all of the methods here in the forums since there is no time frame for a fix. Apple is aware of this thread trust me, I know kennethyoung and myself have been working real close with the ios developers and engineers. Try your luck by calling this number 18002752273. Ask to speak with a supervisor and explain your situation. As I have said before in this thread, my idevice was out of warranty and I got a new one and not a refurb.

    Hi Guys,

I to have the DREDED ERROR 3 after IOS 7 update.....I am going to try restoring while my iPhone is in the freezer now. If that doesn’t work I’m going to try to over heat the device till the temperature warning screen comes on (don’t know if this will because technically there’s no firmware installed on device) ... I know heating the iPhone 4s device till it over heated fixed my friends greyed out Wi-Fi.. Will report back... Apple seriously need to pull their finger out on this one.

    Hi baxterica007,

As ogm1er stated we are communicating with Apple engineers on Error (3) but there is no timeframe we can report on yet. I know how frustrating it can be but we have to hang there and let Apple work on it along wirh their other issues they are trying to handle. Again, if you can repeat the freezer physics solution more than once, and leaving it in the freezer "during" the Restore yielding the best results. Again, be sure the Device is OFF while in the freezer prior to starting the Restore. If the device is ON the fix is less likely to work as the Flash chips don't get as cold. If it still doesn't Restore successfully, try again at the Apple phone number ogm1er shared a few replies back and visit an Apple Genius again. Sometimes you might get lucky on the 2nd try. Hang in there.

    Hi Pelling,

Sorry to hear it didn't work. You appear to have one of the more challenging devices. Please keep following this thread for alternative solutions. Hang in there.

Thanks for your reply. Im going to try again in a few minutes. I will not be beaten. I spoke to apple today and they are getting an engineer to ring me some time in the next day, im adament that the device itself is perfect and there is definatly no hardware issue which an apple supervisor was telling me. I'll be demanding a new iphone if the problem is not fixed by them in the next couple of days. Keep you updated. Maybe be if all of us who have error 3 and cant restore keep pushing and probing apple to do something because most of us may be out of warrenty.

    Lets stick together.

How cold was your phone when you took it out ? I dont want to damage it. Might sound like a silly question..

Welll... I don't know how cold, but you know, it just too cold. Because it was placed in freezer for 30 minutes...I tried to restore and got ( error 3 ) several times this morning until I tried the trick.

    Hi Pelling,

Most consumer freezers are set to between 25-30F. Cold won't hurt the phone but ice formation could which is why I urge a paper towel wrapped around a 1/2 cup of dry rice to absorb any moisture inside the freezer bag you place the phone in. In manufacturing of Flash chips for Industrial, Military and Space applications we normally test for full functionality as low as -55C (-67F). Commercial grade chips as in the iPhone may stop functioning if you get much below -5F but they may operate much colder aallowing you to try a colder temperature. The physics of cold temperature making Flash erase easier starts to flatten out around -20F so going colder than this is unlikely to yield a successful erase attempt.

    Hi Pelling,

Also, refer the engineer you speak to to this discussion thread number. We know how frustrating this can be and having your $600+ iPhone or iPad "brick" due to no fault of your own while doing a iOS update can raise your emotions, but remember to be nice when dealing with Apple staff. Sugar goes much farther than garlic. Apple may be collecting hardware test cases to work on this issue so you might raise this question. If you have owned multiple Apple devices for many years I would mention this at the appropriate time if needed. Good luck!
