Hello I tried to download an update but when I started the macbook again I got a greyscreen. I tried to reinstall the os but it says "You cannot upgrade this version of OS X because a newer version is installed." on my only disk when I try to select it. I don't have any time machine backup what should I do?

I reas online and the greyscreen seems to be because of à Thunderbolt update. To fix it. you should reinstall the OS but i can't.

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
