Q: mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Bit heavy handed but needs must as they say, but i have just tweeted Tim Cook   Apple CEO asking is he aware of problems with the Maverick update, he of course will not be aware.

True. If you are here to post possible solutions then fair enough. This problem is neither big enough nor defined enough ( my computer was working just fine on Mavericks until 7 days ago, I have had the same problem on Lion before ) to get focussed attention. Far more people are using Mavericks just fine even if I think it's one of the buggiest releases yet.

Mavericks is just Apple's Windows Vista. As @scoobyclub said the problems are not defined well enough. There are lots of small to medium issues and a few big blunders but nothing on the level of obviousness as something like Microsoft's Red Ring of Death.

The overly sensitive editing of posts by Apple administrators however shows how precious they think they are though and that they are paying attention to the wrong things. Pathetic.

There are several threads about the lose of WiFi that were started long before this one that have hundreds of thousands of views and thousands of replies. This thread only got started after Mavericks came out and the problems developed in that OS. This has been a problem since 2007. Apple has had plenty of notice and knows full well that there are WiFi problems. It just doesn't seem that Apple is overtly addressing this. Sometimes being "secretive" can have adverse affects.

I'm well aware of that and it doesn't change my opinion. In fact, that it's been going on since 2007 only reinforces my opinion.

Difficult ro measure the scope of the problem.  I have  two new MacBook Airs that have absolutely no problems, before or after Mavericks.  1,882 comments as a percentage of the total universe of MacBook Airs is a fairly small group.

But I can appreciate the effort in bringing the problem to the surface.  The next time I could be the lucky user with a problem.

Those 1882 comments are only a percentage of the total number of those experiencing problems. That was just one forum on Mavs. There are other forums as well that  can be added to this number. Do you think for a second if Honda had 1800 cars out there with the same problem they would  not issue a recall? I am sure many out there are getting by with the little tricks like shutting off bluetooth or turning their wifi on and off and are either on other forums or not even on a forum.

At this point, after months of negligence, Apple is opening itself up to a class action lawsuit. Mavericks is essentially malware for a percentage of users. It may be a tiny percentage, but it's still a problem caused by Apple engineering that they refuse to fix or even address.

Just bought a Macbook Pro 15" within the past 30 days. I've used a Windows machine since version 3.0.

I am so frustrated with this machine. I can't go 5 minutes without having to "Turn Wi-Fi Off", try to reconnect (usually takes a time or two) before being able to go back to work. Not the most productive way to get things done.

This is something you would wish on your nemisis.

Yes, I had actually looked that up a couple days ago. Unfortunately I have had it longer than 2 weeks. I am currently in negotiations with my wife to trade for her HP. If that fails I am going back to the Apple store to see what they can do.

May I suggest, if you do decide to go to the Apple store, you print out a few pages, showing the different discussion threads on this very topic, with indicators showing number of pages for each topic and number of views. I did this when I went to the Apple store. My "genius" guy didn't care much, but I figure if more people do this, eventually someone who does care will take notice.

I did not read the entire thread. I have a new Macbook Air and I have the same problem of losing wifi connection after sleep. Turning off bluetooth is not a workaround for me because I use a bluetooth mouse. I just turn wifi off and on and it connects quickly. But this is annoying, and Apple should fix it.
