iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
Only you know if they are on your computer.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Sounds like the iPod was synced to another computer/iTunes library or maybe you synced automatically and the songs were not in your iTunes library.

Feb 8, 2014 8:18 AMby howie789,I think I finally understand Itunes and syncing - one more thing lllass, sometimes when I am on Itunes, I cannot get back to the home screen - where the IPOD button is on the right hand corner, for me to get to the Summary button (for me to check/uncheck syncing and manually adding options) page, and "On my IPOD" button... How do you get there without unplugging your IPOD, or x-ing out of Itunes and going back in (sometimes that doesn't work)..is there a refresh button somewhere?

Feb 21, 2014 3:15 PMby howie789,It happened again the other day- I tried to manually add a few songs- I'm fairly sure they were in the mp3 format- it was trying to sync, but they could not be added on for some reason- that circle kept going round and round on the IPOD without stopping- I finally said screw it and I cut it off (hit the x)- lo and behold most of my songs were unplayable, On the IPOD- the song had a red circle with the square in the middle, and when you try to play it- it skips over it to the next song that is available. Why does this happen? I read you should not interrupt a sync. Is this the result? I had no choice but to interrupt it. I had to sync my library again. I was able to get all songs back on. What did I do wrong in this case? I prefer manually adding songs. Thx.
