Try going to system preferences/Secuirity& Privacy, Advanced tab (enter your admin pswd if needed) there you will find the Diasableremote control infraed receiver, and click it if you want it off, or unclick it it you want it on

MacBook Pro Retina does not have an IR Receiver port.

    Best.

tried the preferences/security thing but even after locking it did not allow me to do anything with it.  It is amazing that it will not work with my apple remote for power points.  I'm stuggling with the digital projector in the classroom and the printer nightmare continues.  Too bad  I used to like macs.

This was a strange choice not to continue the IR port from earlier MacBook's. When I bought my first Mac laptop in 2009, it came with a remote for free! This is unheard of now. Was it a design/space/weight decision?

I'm hoping that it was for security measures. It just seems they removed a lot of stuff like the super drive, ethernet port, and IR sensor. I kind of feel as if they made the MacBooks a bit worse.

The only MBP still being sold today with the IR sensor is the 2012 13" MBP. It still has an actual hard drive and a DVD drive. Those two features along with the IR sensor are no longer on the Retina MBPs.
