    Hello,

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open/run it.

Where did you get this dictionary?

Is it the Advanced version such as Amazon lists for download?

    http://www.amazon.com/Websters-Advanced-Learners-Dictionary-Download/dp/B007WV2U R6

If so have you tried the customer service support of the vender site?

On the above page, they say there is no refund and no sales out of the USA

of that product, and also show a 'terms of use' link in blue, and also goes on

to suggest looking for the download in a system download file folder, or any

where your OS version may store new download files. Once opened, it may

have gone into the Applications Folder. Or in a user desktop Finder location.

The Apple Support Communities discussions are users of Apple products

who visit and attempt to help resolve non-technical issues with products

and applications made by Apple. Volunteers. As in 'unpaid.'

Perhaps you can give more information on your Mac or Apple product

and if there is a possible problem with it, then a new topic can begin.

The Tiger 10.4.11 OS X in my computers had a fair built-in dictionary.

There were a few OK free widgets, to run in Dashboard or standalone.

    Good luck & happy computing!

It it turns out that OS X 10.4.11 is too old for the application you could investigate updating to OS X 10.6. It is not expensive although you may need to buy extra RAM.

Assuming your machine actually says MacBook, you should be able to upgrade directly to 10.6.  Here's how:

    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455

If it says iBook or Powerbook it is not compatible with 10.6.
