Q: Movies folder deleted my downloaded non-itunes movies?

CleanMyMac can be quite a destructive program. So can Monolingual.

... there are no outside programs I run except for cleanmymac and monolingual.

Using either one will result in irretrievable data loss.

Neither those 2 apps can delete user's files without direct request from user so both can't corrupt his files.
