Q: Update to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 has killed my wifi access. Help needed.

I have a  late 2008 aluminium MacBook. Everything worked fine until I downloaded the update on wifi, restarted, & now I cannot turn my wifi on.

Help please!  I need to use my MacBook tonight.

My MBP (late 2008) is still working fine regarding wifi with Mavericks. As I noted above, I went back to an earlier version of 10.8 before 10.8.5 before jumping to Mavericks. In the discussion boards I thought I saw that a few had the wifi issues carry over to Mavericks when going from 10.8.5, but I don't recall if they were machine specific or got better over time. All I can really say is the method I used to get to Mavericks worked to get rid of the wifi issues I encountered with 10.8.5. Hope it works for you.
