    Hi:

I got my iPad Air on the weekend. I agree with the fragility concerns. I looked into it more after noticing how 'hollow' it sounds when tapped as well as the hollow sound carrying through to speaker output. The iPad 4 I had before was very solid.

I looked at a few videos and one iPad dropped into loose dirt result in major screen damage.

I think it is quite feasible that the screen could break in normal use. If this is the case then Apple may have a difficult 12 months ahead as these complaints accelerate.

The forums are good for publicising (I will add a link to my FB page for the drop test video) manufacturers errors of judgement.

I certainly think that this iPad Air is a step too far and making an unacceptable sacifice in quality and reliability for the sake of lightness (which is nice but not a must have).

Same experience here - had the iPad Air for about 6 months and a crack suddenly appeared in the display. Took it to the Apple store and was told it would be $300 to replace.

I'm very disappointed. And I won't be buying any more iPads.

i am disgusted.  I got the ipad air for 40 days and literally pressed the button and felt a crunch....over the next few days the cracks spread.  ipad.jpg

you can see clearly it is from just pushing the button.  I went to Reston Apple store in the DC area and they treated me super rude.  They talked like I made up how I broke it.  Told me I must have dropped it as Apple don't have any issue with this.  I said there are discussions on apple sites about it and that I only had it for 40 days and you can see clearly even if I dropped it like they accused I did, how does it hit exactly at the button like that?  They said don't know, we are not there to witness how you dropped it.  I will write corporate and see.  However, I own Apple stocks and was their biggest advocate for years, even now when the stocks tanked, I still support.  Needless to say, after that visit, I sold all my stocks on Monday.

I apologize, I meant to put APPLE FAIROAKS, not Reston.  .

So what happened for you?  We had the same problem 2 weeks out of the box.  Called apple and sent photos  and they said must have dropped something on it which is not the case.  So angry about this. We've had ipads for years.  The air is too fragile to be used.

Surprisng as it may seem, the iPad Air does often crack with little to no provation. The same thing happend to me. Picked it up one day and notice a crack right across the front. As I used it other cracks quickly appears and a portion finally crumbled.

There was NO DROP or trauma to the device at all. It had never even left the house. Now I know that it's about as robust as a champagne flute I'd be nervous of actually putting it in a bag or something.

Oh, and I had the expensive Smart Case too.

    Poor show Apple.

Sorry you had problems, but sweepingly saying it's "too fragile for normal use" oils a gross exaggeration that belies the experience of millions of happy, every day users.

That should have been "is a gross exaggeration".  iOS 7's auto-correction strikes again!

Boy does that look bad!  It reminds me of the crater Tycho on the Moon, which has rays splaying out for it across much of the Moon's surface.

Have you tried anther Apple store?  There are gobs in the DC area.  Tyson's Corner perhaps.  Good luck with it!
