Feb 6, 2014 12:46 PM in response to christina980by Searchin99,Christina - you probably don't want to hear this ..... but since FCPX started what is basically a new application .... okay, so there is some similarity but it is almost in name only. "X" is a major difference in the way one edits video, everything from the database file system to the way the edit timeline is done.
Consequently, because there is so much difference between X and 7, it is hard to consider that X is an upgrade. In fact, when X first came out there were a lot of editors who really badmouthed it as compared to 7. Now that it has matured over various improvements one can see, really, how fast and easy it is to use.
If you're still reading, the answer is ... there is no 'upgrade' to 7 so, if you want it, one will just have to buy X.
Disclaimer: I almost bought a copy of 7 but wound up getting X, starting with 10.0.2. Also recently got "Motion 5" just to make some animated vacation maps. Now that I have it I see this is a really great add-on, or go-with, as there is so much else that 5 can be used for.
