What was the last version Number...I have no clue...will I be able to get a new and not used one?
You will be purchasing the "Productivity Suite" of Numbers, Pages and Keynote called iWork '09. The apps will need to be updated immediately upon installation because they were introduced several operating system versions ago and won't function in Mavericks until you run Software Update. So, do that before trying to launch any of the apps.

I already purchased Pages before and have no need for anything other than numbers. So I'm hoping I can find the numbers 2.3 all alone.
I appreciate the wonderful help on this forum I thank you all very much!

You once could download Numbers 2.3 from the Mac App Store without buying Pages. But now that Numbers 3 rules the App Store, I think you're stuck with buying a boxed set of the whole suite. The price isn't that bad, though.

I have no way to test this, so proceed or ignore at your own risk, but there have been reports that if you have access to a Mac that is running Mavericks, and log in to the App Store with your Apple ID, you can purchase Numbers 3.1 on that machine, and then when you log in to the App Store on your Mountain Lion machine, it will offer to download the older version, since the new one isn't compatible with that operating system.
If you do choose to be a guinea pig for this, it would be nice if you posted back and let us know if it worked.
