Q: Airport Utility can't find my Time Capsule after Mavericks update

Hello - I recently updated my Mac Book Air to Mavericks 10.9.1, and I can no longer manage my AirPort Base Station or Extender from that machine.  This means I cannot use the Time Machine backups from that Base Station, or view the devices on the network at all.

Screen Shot from my Mac Book Air:

I am connected to "Kobayashi" which is the network created from the Time Capsule, so I can connect to the network it is broadcasting from this machine.

From my MacBook Pro using OS X (10.7.5) I can view the network and also perform Time Machine back-ups.  Here is a screen shot from that machine:

I have connected the MacBook Air both using the wireless connection and also an ethernet to Thunderbolt adapter.  I have done a hard reset on the Time Capsule, and also restored it to factory settings.

I have tried it with settings to allow and disallow IPv6 requests.

Any advice on additional trouble shooting/fixes I can try?

Thanks

Jon

I called into Apple support and after debugging for a few minutes we identified my McAfee secuity software as blocking the connection.  In my McAfee software the firewall setting was set to "disabled" for the disk, which is the default for all devices on the network.

Thanks to the Apple support team, happy to have my files backing up now.

Thanks!  I had a similar problem.  I had McAfee All Access - Internet Security installed and it was blocking the connection to the Time Capsule.

The firewall setting defaults to "Public" rather than "Home or Work".

Path to setting.  Open McAfee.  Preferences > Firewall - Select "Home or Work."

Thanks for the question and answer - I had the same problem when replacing an old Airport Express with a newer one; the Airport Utility  couldn't find the Airport Extreme Base Station.  Now it's all set up and fine.

    Look at here

I finally figured out that my own "connection timeout" problem was caused by the DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. It added so much noise when in use that my macbook pro lost the wifi connection.

the solution? putting the stupid adapter further away from my macbook and also wrapping in aluminum foil to prevent it from interfering with the wifi signal... ;-) .

    This works for my iMac late 2013, I got so much adapters (thunderbird/dvi - thunderbird/FW800 - USB3.0/eSata).

    Try

Thank you. Your suggestion helped resolve my 'Backup Delayed' error for Time Capsule. I use an early 2009 iMac and OS 10.9.2 and my home network is created by this very Time Capsule. I also use the McAfee Internet Security for Mac package. This error cropped up after one of the latest OS updates to Mavericks.

To resolve my issue I went to McAfee Internet Security Preferences and under the Firewall tab ---> Network Connections changed the 'Type' fom Public to Home or Work.
