Q: AirPlay not working with ethernet

AirPlay works with my computer and the apple TV both on wifi but if i connect the apple tv to an ethernet cable the airplay option on my computer goes away. How can I get airplay to work while using an ethernet connection on the apple tv?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), iOS 7.0.4

sounds like your router keep wifi and ethernet on seperate subnets or whole seperate networks

you likely have to setup the router to bridge the two

to verify this is the case you can try to ping the appletvs ip address when it's connected to ethernet

You need to disable IPV6 on your Mac to make this work. Guessing you have a Macbook Pro with Mavericks on it, open the Terminal app and input the following commands exactly:

    networksetup -setv6off ethernet

    networksetup -setv6off wi-fi

This should turn IPV6 off but I don't suggest you doing it if for some reason you need IPV6. Hope it helps.
