Feb 8, 2014 12:27 PM in response to dharwichby OrnotBitwise,I had the same problem with my iMac of the same vintage. I found several articles online which suggested that this can happen but didn't ever find a resolution. I ended up creating a bootable USB thumb drive and using that instead.
