Q: 10.9 (Mavericks) External Display Problem

Recently I made the upgrade to OS X 10.9 and now I start to having problems with the resolution of my sceen. I have a LG Flatron E2250V and it work perfectly in OS X 10.8.3, the recomend resolution for this display is 1920x1084 but right now the system only give me 1600x1200 option, thereby is in a wrong frecuency for my screen.

About 3 month ago I try to upgrade the sistem to OS X 10.8.4 and I had the same problem.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Sure, if you press both the command key (left of the space bar) and f2 key (at the top left) together simultaneously it should force an auto detect of connected monitors and fix the bug.

I can confirm the same issues using a 15" MBP with a Thunderbolt Display and an HP LA2405x daisychained through a WD hardrive. After upgrading to Mavericks I had a default of 1080p resolution on the HP monitor and Alt clicking gave me only non-native resolutions that put the picture half off the display.

Switching from a VGA adapter to a DVI adapter fixed it for me. Now running full resolution on both screens (1900x1200 on HP + 2560x1440 on TBD).

I tried all the "fixes" - nothing worked.  Scaling wasn't a solution.  1280x1024  SwitchRexsX gave me a blurry screen that was a lower resolution the monitor showed before.  a fuzzy 1920x1084  I was on the phone for hours talking with several Apple support people - all of them said they never heard of this problem (until I had them look at this thread).

Dec 31, 2013 I brought home my brand new $3k 2013 MacPro, only to find that when I connected it to my lovely HP LP30665 30" monitor either the "Best for disply" or "Scaled" resolution was 1280x1024.  My icons were the size of a baseball.  There are only 3 DVI ports on the monitor, so HDMI wasn't an option.  I purchased a DVI/mini DisplayPort adapter to use with my existing DVI/DVI cable - gave me a resolution of 1280x1024.  I purchased a DVI/mini DisplayPort 6' cable - gave me a resolution of 1280x1024.

But finally after 2 months I have the resulotion back that I use to have on my 2012 MacPro of 2560x1600!!

    Solution:

Purchased a real DVI/DVI/ Dual-Link Cable (I thought I purchased one before, even though it had 24 pins it appearantly either wasn't a real Dual-Link or it was faulty).  I ended up with the $10.00 BlueRigger 6' DVI/DVI/ Dual-Link cable (can be seen on Amazon). Secondly, I purchased an Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter...for a whopping price of $99.00 (from the Apple store).

AND IT WORKS!  2560x1600  It seems that having Dual-Link is the solution. I'm not sure if this is a solution for everyone but it could be worth a try - I know Apple won't be able to assist.  And if it doesn't work, Apple has a 14 day return policy.  good luck

Hi could you possibly post links to the hardware that you purchased.

I'm still desperately seeking for a solution to get my Quato monitor working at 1920 x 1200.

    aringa9,

perhaps you'll have your full resolution - but I guess that you can get a 10bit digital signal for the full range of color only connected with the display port (not with the DVI) at your Quato.

Greets from Germany (with the same f.... problem: 1920 x 1080)

My MacPro 2009 doesn't have a DisplayPort - it has two DVI connectors.

    Cheers from Munich

My Mac Pro has one DVI port and two of the Display Ports !

The monitors both work just fine with OS 10.8.5 but when I upgrade to Maverick it all goes horribly wrong.

May try again and tinker with the leads but I don't see why the operating system should have such an effect on the monitor display.

I am sorry to find that update 10.9.2 of Maverics does not correct the Maverics bug for high-resolution monitors rotated to vertical (portrait) position which I described here in my posts of 29 and 30 December 2013.

I have tested today HP ZR2740w 2650x1440 px monitor connected via mini-displayPort-to-displayPort cable and in the rotated position (pivot 90 degrees) the only option for "Scaled" I am getting is 800x600 pixels (instead of 1440x2560).

Thanks for the update.  I've got the same issue with a Mac Mini Server (mid-2011) with the same monitor as you.  I wonder how long it will take to correct this issue?  I have to stay with 10.8.5 until this gets resolved.
