Q: My apple tv won't recognize my apple id

Everytime I try to sign to my iTunes store on my Apple tv it tells me that my apple id or password is incorrect.  This is the only apple id I have ever had.  I did change my passwor on October 13 after multiple probles with my mobile-me to iCloud transition.  I have had my apple tv for over 6 months, so I tried both my previous Apple id password (as well as the new one) but it does not accept either of them and even though I have homesharing "On" it doesn't do me any good.

Also, it will not do the software update to 3.4, it tells me my software is up to date.  I reset apple tv yesterday and started from scratch to no avail.  No problems with my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad2 or my iPhone, only with Apple TV.    HELP!

    Hi,

Did you try the work-around in the previous post?

I am also having this same problem, an dhave tried all of the workarounds mentioned. This is very frustrating and poor. Has anyone else had this issue today and been able to fix it?

I did have this issue today. Was driving me nuts!

In the end, I did a Factory Restore on my Apple TV, then waited for all of the updates to download. I re-connected to my WiFi Network and voila! All was well!

I'm having the same problem today. It started when after watching one show last night, our Apple TV 3 said "iTunes unavailable" when we tried to watch something else. I tried fixing that today and eventually did a Factory Restore. It installed 5.3 as part of that, though it may already have been on that build before. The computer and phones were able to reach iTunes, so it was an Apple TV specific issue.

Now that I've done that, it won't accept the Apple ID password! The iMac, both iPhones and the iPad are fine. I've done a couple of things with no success (mostly suggested here):

    • Typed in the ".com" manually (there's a dash in the user name, but no special characters in the password)
    • Restarted the router (AT&T Uverse)
    • Restarted the Apple TV
    • Changed the location to UK and then back to US.
    • Disassociated the Apple TV from iTunes (though of course now it won't show up at all)
    • Sacrificed a chicken.

Any other ideas out there on how to fix this? It's hugely annoying since we buy a lot of content through iTunes! Might have to resort to calling Apple or making a Genius Bar appointment tomorrow.

I tried to just restore my Apple TV and it gets hung up on setting date and time.  Just circles around and around and around....  Apparently all settings and fixes mentioned require the ATV's date and time to be set!  I tried to log into iTunes in settings and it flat out says " try again later". Of course this is after I just typed in Apple ID and password like 10 times!!

Did you get any solutions to this ongoing issue, besides chicken sacrificing?

Nothing worked for me, until I took my AppleTV (model 2) into an Apple Store Genius bar.

Eventually, using various techniques including the USB connection, they managed to get up to date firmware installed. I had them pair it with my iPhone via bluetooth, so I could do the password entry that way.

It will also pair with any Apple wireless keyboard. Much better!

Now, it works great again. It is our favorite way to access Netflix streaming and the like.

I recommend this remedy. I do think it un-Apple like that this is necessary.

We had the same problem after I had to change my userid to use a different email address. I was able to log into my account on all of my other IOS devices and computer, but not the AppleTV. We simply reset the Apple TV to the factory settings and then it worked fine after that.

I'm having issues with this at the moment.  I brought my Apple TV with me back to school and cannot get it to accept my Apple ID and password.  I have reset the password, reset the device and tried the typing out .com rather than using the shortcut.  None of these work.  Any suggestions?  Was the apple store useful?

It's maddening that Apple cannot fix this problem that has been going on for several years.

I had to take my Apple TV 2 into the Genius Bar. They fixed it in about an hour by upgrading the firmware.

That's the only solution that worked for us. Try it.

    Hello,

So I discovered that it might have been a problem connecting to the internet because there is a required username and password to connect to the network which could not be entered in AppleTV.  However, after fixing this issue and updating the AppleTV, it will still not show up on my computer (Airplay does not show up).

Any suggestions?  Is this still an issue with the firmware that I need to go to the Apple store for?

    Thanks.

Step #1 not made apparent in tthe instruction manual is to use Menu button to go to Settings and SELECT and LOG ONTO your WIFI ACOOUNT. Everything after that is a breeze!

This is what worked for me...

-First I changed my username on icloud from an old email address to a new email adress and because of ical sync issues i was having on my macbook.

-After making this change AppleTV no longer would recognize my user name/pword.

-Like everyone else AppleTV kept promoting me to enter my user name/pword but to no avail (frusterating)

    Steps to fix:

    Go to setting:

    1.update itunes pword

    2. update icloud pword

3, update itunes pword on itunes (on macbook)

    4. RESTART APPLE TV

    5. GOOD TO GO!

This did the trick. Apparently it's not reading the shortcuts.
