Q: Can I rate or otherwise mark a podcast episode to identify it later?

Goal - Mark music show podcasts that contain songs I want to download. That way I can go back and get the song information later, so that I can then find and get the individual song.

Per-iOS 7 Solution - I used to rate the podcast episode, and then use a smart playlist to find music podcast episodes that had been rated. I also sometimes take a screenshot of the podcast that showed the podcast name and how many minutes into the podcast that the desired song was located. For example - Episode #244 at 45minutes. I can go to the podcast Web site, find the playlist for that episode, and get the artist and song name that played at that time.

iOS Problem - iOS 7 separated podcasts from Music, so I have to use the PodCast app listen to podcasts. The app does not give me the option to rate podcast episode.

Solution - Use screeshots exclusively because there is no other way to quickly mark podcasts for later review.

I do something similar with a podcast which provides a different song each day.  After a few weeks, I'll listen to them all and rate ones I want to buy/keep with 5 stars, ones I don't with 1 star.

There's no way to mark them anymore and it's infuriating.

I tried the Podcast app when it first came out a few years ago and deleted it within days.  Now I'm forced to use it with iOS7 and it's infuriating.

I purposely got another 2 year plan and bought another iPhone last year because I've invested so much time in iTunes and getting my podcasts and music just right.  I'm afraid to see what new 'improvements' are to come.

I know this will never seen by the Podcast development team and even if it is, zero Fs will be given.

    Great job guys  /s

Thanks for that brilliant suggestion! I just discovered today that I could not rate an excellent podcast. I manually rated it in iTunes, but next time I'll take a screenshot.

    Workaround:

If these podcast are just one song per episode, Get Info on them, change the Kind from Podcast to Music, then add them all to a regular music playlist. Because they're now just like all other songs, you can apply ratings to them, even on iDevices.
