Q: Macbook pro early 2011 - overheat and crash with blue screen and glitches

Hi

since last wednesday my MBP has started to freeze and then crash with bluescreen, glitches and so on...

Most of the time doesnt not restart with any command as is overheating as well.

photo.JPGphoto(1).JPG

I did a clean installation on friday night and i am now running mavericks and then again on sunday it start with all the above issue. At the moment i am able to restart only if i reset NVRAM each time, which i do not think is really safe to do it everytime.

i also tried

Macs Fan Control

gfxCardStatus

to fix but they doesn't help.

I read many customers are now experiencing similar problems with this mac as the GPU Amd is faulty.

APPLE SHOULD RECALL AND REPLACE IT or will lose many custumers

I am now waiting to be seen at Genius bar on sunday, however i read about etrecheck in this related post

http:/https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5081857?start=0&tstart=0

and meanwhile i want to hear your opinion...

Looking forward

The 15” MBP Mid 2010 models were recalled for GPU issues. Your’s is an Early 2010 model and the recall has expired anyway.  Official Apple statement: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088

See this link on what do to do when you take it to an Apple store for a free diagnostic check:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5784199?tstart=210

Disabling automatic graphics switching (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4110) can sometimes bypass the problem.  You can also try downloading gfxstatus and set the video to Intel.  http://gfx.io

More on this GPU issue from another thread:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5763560?tstart=0 where Linc Davis says:

The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test"). Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present.

That is a diagnostic they can run at an Apple store.  It is not available otherwise.

You can try downloading gfxstatus and set the video to Intel.  http://gfx.io

    Hello Lulu,

whatever my be the problem in your mac, as long as you do not completely remove Genieo, nothing will be solved, start by doing this, it is easy to get "infected", not so easy to remove this malware, read here:

    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/

Also uninstall gfxstatus, and Macfanscontrol, they do not solve anything and are superfluous.

For the time being uninstall BetterSnap also, we'll see about that later.

    Restart after all this.

Do all this before you go to Apple.

my mac HD has been totally erased and reinstalled 4 times by now not using time machine. so is clean form this app u mention.

and about gfxstatus and macfancontrol are the only app that make the mac running for a while till the next crash, which is now happening very often, even just browsing the web with no video etc...

    soooo......

    this mac has ****** up.
