Thanks for the question. I was about to do this until I read your post. Glad to know there are XP issues before I upgarde to Mavericks. In the meantime I'll post anything I come across.....
P.S. MS ends support for XP in mid April.

XP is not supported using Boot Camp and Mavericks. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634.

Mavericks doesn't support XP but does support Win7 and Win8 (including 8.1). If you need XP use virtualization such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop.
