I followed these steps exactly as written and iTunes is up and running like a charm.I'm pretty much a novice with technical matters but your instructions were clear and to the point. For anyone else who is having the same problems with this latest update, I highly encourage you to follow tt2's advice. It's quick, easy and it works!

Feb 7, 2014 7:33 AM in response to turingtest2by Gville1,Thanks, worked perfectly on my Windows 7, 64bit system. Quick, lost nothing, everything was there after reinstall. Din't want to try for a few days because in the past I have lost old ripped files and music downloaded from years ago in this process. But all is good now!

Feb 7, 2014 10:21 AM in response to turingtest2by reneebe,Thanks so much for this! Solved the issue completely -- although clearly Apple messed up an update to cause the problem in the first place.

Feb 7, 2014 7:22 PM in response to RealChewbaccaby Eric W.,Apple has released a new build of iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows which resolves the install/launch issues some customers encountered after updating. If you are updating from iTunes 11.1.3 follow these steps on how to install the latest version. If you have already attempted to update to iTunes 11.1.4 and are encountering an error, see iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open

(duplicate of what I said in another thread, but adding here for those who may not see the other one)
I just now updated directly from iTunes, worked perfectly with no workarounds (Windows Vista for me). So new build at least did work on my system (and did not originally, I backed out of earlier attempt with System Restore).

Feb 12, 2014 8:36 PM in response to Eric W.by kmfamily,Wait, is that the same for windows 7? Because I don't feel like going through the entire process of downloading iTunes to fix certain problems because I want to know if it is safe uninstalling and re-installing iTunes.
