Feb 8, 2014 4:23 AM in response to MuzikDruidby biowizard,MuzikDruid: Yes, I get that - but if someone has "borrowed" your phone with a view to stealing its data, I hardly see how hoping they won't press the "trust" button is going to put them off!
The point is, this is MY phone, attached to MY computer with MY genuine Apple cable, and it should be MY choice whether or not I have this feature enabled. Because currently, it is a constant annoyance whenver I reboot my main machine (something, which as a software developer, I do frequently).

Maybe I don't understand your issue.
But here's what it simply put.
If you plug your phone to one and ONLY one PC(I'm going to leave non wdws out of this one - not my area ... I would hazard a guess it's identical but don't take my word on that) you should see one prompt. When you accept it, that preference is saved. (Shouldn't be prompted repeatedly)
Now few things reset it
Apple updates (remember the zillion iTunes updates), Windows updates AND driver changes.
Those are unusual.
The more common problem is when you forget your charger take a USB and stick it for a quick charge - after all there's a USB somewhere close no matter where you are right?
If your prefs are not being retained - that too seems to be fixed with a driver update and (saw few other threads mentioning apple reset/restore/repair function)
Hope this helps!

Feb 8, 2014 9:22 AM in response to MuzikDruidby biowizard,Yep, it's one computer, one computer only, running a single version of Windows 7. When Windows is running, I can plug both iPhones (4 & 4s) and both iPads (1 and 3) into it, and unplug, as often as I like and there are no issues. Moreover, if I unplug the iOS devices, and reboot the computer, then provided I wait until Windows is fully up and running again, there are no issues.
The PROBLEM is that if my devices are plugged in (their default state, because I leave them attached to USB when no in use to keep them fully charged), and I reboot the computer - then EVEN if the iOS devices are in standby mode - they wake up as the computer power-cycles, detect a machine NOT running windows (because immediately after reboot you are in the BIOS POST sequence), and set a flag internally saying : "strange computer detected" - even though it is the SAME computer and they have never been unplugged from it.
Now, EVEN when Windows is running, next time I try to use my iPhones or the iPad 3 while connected, I get the "trust this computer" message. The SAME computer, running the SAME version of Windows that I have already "trusted" hundreds of times.
THAT is the PITA that I would like to be able to avoid. It has NOTHING to do with third-party computers (guess what, I don't connect ANYTHING to other machines). NOTHING to do with dodgy leads. JUST MY PHONES (and iPad) ON MY COMPUTER.
And ALL that I am asking for, is a setup option to turn this totally unnecessary nagware OFF. On MY PHONES (and iPad).

Feb 8, 2014 9:31 AM in response to biowizardby nnjguy1976,See, it doesn't matter whether I turn my laptop on or off...If I plug my phone into my personal home computer, it asks to trust this computer...I have a bad habit of bringing my phone with me to the bathroom...So I will disconnect my iPhone 5C, go to the bathroom, return a fwe minutes later, plug it back in, and the SAME message pops up...Not only is it annoying, its an inconvienence....I tried to "update the device driver", did nothing...Says the driver is up to date...So I do agree that Apple needs to fix this with the next update, and the sooner the better..

Feb 9, 2014 7:32 AM in response to JohnPaulWilliamby ptalindstrom,I am in Costa Rica for 2 months with a rental car with an ipod/usb port. Would have been nice to be able to play my tunes while i was here. Not sure how i am supposed to update the windows drivers or disable them on a frickin' rental car.
The issue, as stated 1000's of times here and other forums, is pretty obvious... the issue was a stupid mistake by Apple and should be fixed.
This is my 3rd iphone; and with all the stupid updates IOS has had; this one was the deal breaker. Time to get an Android.

Feb 10, 2014 4:03 AM in response to JohnPaulWilliamby Mecca2771,I had this same issue and noticed it only occurred when I had selected to use wireless sync. Once I un-selected, closed iTunes and restarted it went away. Applying the setting again caused the issue to return so I just left it un-selected.
Hope this helps.

Feb 11, 2014 11:16 AM in response to JohnPaulWilliamby Jordaxius,**SOLUTION FOUND**
I read through the first 4 or 5 pages of this thread looking for an answer and tried all of them. Nothing worked, but I finally found the fix.
I was running windows 8 with the latest version of itunes 11.1.4 and ios 7.0.4 for my iphone 5s and it wasn't connecting with itunes or my computer. I was unable to import photos, music, etc. and that annoying "trust this computer" prompt kept appearing on my phone over and over again -- until I uninstalled itunes and all the apple components related. You must uninstall from your control panel in this order:
- iTunes
- Apple Software Update
- Apple Mobile Device Support
- Bonjour
- Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Then reinstall the latest version of itunes from the official itunes website.
Once all these steps are complete, restart your computer, open itunes, and then plug in your device. Everything should sync like it used to and without that annoying "trust this computer" alert popping up endlessly.
**Important** ~ itunes should keep all your music and etc. You shouldn't have to worry about backing everything up on to your PC, but it is advised to do so as a precausion.
All these steps can be found at this apple support page
Good luck and best regards. ~ JT
