Jan 19, 2014 11:19 PM in response to trower-mbby spheon1969,Dont you think its time Apple themselves reaponded to this threas being over 9pages of comments
1. It isnt dirty ports as original cables work
2. It isnt the sim as tried
3. We arent stupid as some may imply
4. This IS greed of apple and imo is no different to monopolisation that other companies have attempted and been told to back down from (MS being one)
5. Holding down buttons and inserting cables at odd times or putting in usb ends before turning on etc etc is nonsense shouldnt need to be done and doesnt work anyway
6. It is an environmental cost decision as now all cables and none working products are defunct
7. I purchased a 30pin to LP adapter to use my old 4s 30pin cables and therefore can use all my original devices and cables - again that work fine
In summary Apple there is a glitch in the software and your greed is unwelcome - get it sorted!

Jan 20, 2014 3:59 AM in response to spheon1969by jcs2305,@spheon. Can you please read a bit before you decide to jump on the soap box. How do you explain folks not having problems with aftermarket sync cables ? Take a look at this. https://developer.apple.com/programs/mfi/. I think they may have cracked down a bit after people got burned/ electrocuted; but to make it into a greed thing is silly in my opinion. I personally don't have an issue with them trying to crack down on some of the knock off cables out if it means the safety of my person and device. I personally us after marker cables and have no issues. So do several people that I know. A co-worker of mine has had this problem. Which now has gone away on her phone. I evens aw someone in this thread call apple about the issue and they were told it was a faulty charger and it was replaced.
If have used cheap throw away cables in the past that have never really lasted all that long anyway. Which as you put it is an even bigger environmental problem. I buy a lot of 6 from ebay and within a few months they are all bad or falling apart. That doesn't matter to you. What does matter. Is that it impacts you now!
And so it has suddenly become an evil Apple ripping of the consumer issue. Lol. Give me a break. I had this same message pop up,from time to time, with cheap cables when I was using IPhone 4. I think it seems more of an issue with cheap charging products than greed from Apple in this case.
I am not some sheep defending Apple; as I have been involved in another thread here for a couple of months in regard to Apple's prices for movies and music simply being to high on many occasions vs Amazon or even blu ray. What I don't truly understand is your last statement " In summary Apple there is a glitch in the software and your greed is unwelcome - get it sorted". Spheon is it a glitch or is it forced change by greed from Apple ? I think through your frustration with cheap sync cables that you aren't even sure anymore.

Jan 20, 2014 4:17 AM in response to spheon1969by englishdad, spheon, I totally agree with you, up until this debacle with the lightning cables I was a loyal apple fan, but I have to admit that this has really put me off and I too think it's greed. There is no need for it at all and it really takes the 'p' when you buy a legit cable and that doesn't 'kin work!!!!
Not that we can do anything about it of course cos Apple are far to big, but I'll bet there are now quite a few more people jailbreaking because of this! I used to jailbreak my iphone 4 but haven't since (cant be bothered), however now that there is a patch and you can use any cable if you jailbreak, I'm seriously considering it just for that!!

Jan 20, 2014 5:37 AM in response to spheon1969by trower-mb,Just wanted to chime back in here. The problem persists for me and seems more random than ever. Sometimes I go days with no pop up, and then get 10 in a row. One important thing to note regarding bad cables tough is that I only use, and have ever used, the cable the phone came with...and the message only pops up when NOT plugged in.

Jan 22, 2014 12:34 PM in response to SamsMochiby markferg33,I tried this technique and seemed to fix the problem. I have an iPhone 5S and i have never used any non-mac cables (although that really shouldn't matter).
Try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiMGqCmrOWo
basically, turn off the phone and plug in the cable while the spinning exit screen is on. Then turn it back on with the charger still attached. fixed it!

Jan 24, 2014 7:53 AM in response to SamsMochiby supa2014,well in my country the original cable from the store is $50 (and thats just the cable) lol. U cant say if u buy an expensive phone thats an automatic reason you should buy overpriced gadgets that is not a choice but is a necessity for the phone to function. Not because some of you may be rich and have families or jobs that throw money at you, should justify greed cause the way I see it, thats just it (and us being loyal fools). Some persons actually work really hard and save to enjoy the finer things in life at times and sometimes so dont be trying to justify these companies.
Anyhow (ranting aside) I was using knockoff cables for a little while before my original cable was shipped. My battery is now completely drained and the original nor knockoff wont charge it. Any suggestions??

Jan 29, 2014 4:59 PM in response to SamsMochiby doogie100,I have a iPhone 5 and this same issue with the error message. This message appears when the phone is unplugged. I used the factory cable. This has been happening since November of last year 2013. The only that I have tried and has given some relief is turning off the phone and while it is shutting down plug in the USB cable into the phone and then turn on the phone and when loaded unplug. The problem returns within a few days so I have to repeat the above procedure to eliminate the error. If the new updates for iOs7 don't resolve this issue when it is dropped by Apple, I will change this phone for another brand. This is BS and NO ONE FROM APPLE is responding to this issue from its customers! They are too many options for me to tolerate such incompetence from a company that I have supported for as long as their has been an iPhone for them to sell. Enough is enough!

Feb 8, 2014 10:19 PM in response to SamsMochiby caljim,Suddenly this started to happen to my iPhone 5S on Feb 8, 2014 at 10:15PM and I haven't pluged into the cable that came with the iPhone since 08:00. It has nothing to do with a cable. I'm an iOS developer so I have somewhat of a clue. I rebooted the iPhone and no fix. My wife has no such issue with her iPhone 5 and she is sitting next to me.
What is happening?????

Feb 9, 2014 12:14 PM in response to spheon1969by englishdad,HA!!!!
Apple HAVE responded!!!
Instead of being helpful and addressing this problem they decided to give me a stiff talking to and deleted my post because it related to a naughty thing you do to iphones when you get p****d off with them!!
No doubt this will be censored by big brother as well!

Feb 10, 2014 9:36 AM in response to caljimby caljim,The messages ended the next day after I mentioned them on this thread. I did nothing but connect to the standard iPhone charger at night but I doubt that is the issue.

Feb 12, 2014 6:14 AM in response to SamsMochiby SeanTown,I've an iPhone 5 running 7.0.4 and I get this error even when using an Apple cable/adapter. I've spoken with Apple and they've told be it is a bug in iOS and the phone needs resetting to factory. Problem is, I've no power to switch the phone on to reset it and can't charge the phone until I reset it. It has now been packed up and shipped off for repair and I'll get a nice bill for my trouble!

Feb 14, 2014 5:28 AM in response to SamsMochiby Feab123,Just to add one voice here - I hope Apple adresses this question and stops banning thrid-party cables. I do understand certification programs make sense to ensure proper connectivity between devices - but an authentification chip on cable? That adds no value? Come on... All this would not be an issue if Apple was using the EU mandated standard connector or if they had participated in the design/selection process. There are good reasons to use industry-wide standards! Do so now or allow alternative solutions. If not consumers will pressure legislators and you will have a problem!

Feb 14, 2014 5:59 AM in response to Feab123by cs3110,So apparently Apple did this so they could limit distribution to authorised dealers...correct? have a look on eBay and you can already see certified iOS7 cables that work perfectly on sale from unauthorized people. It didnt take long! All this was a waste of time and just made Apple look like a overly greedy company.
Take that Apple you pack of jerks!

Feb 14, 2014 7:18 AM in response to cs3110by caljim,As myself and others have said this message has nothing to do with cables. We are using the charger and cable that comes with iOS devices. It is a strange bug that triggers this warning. Dump on Apple about legitimate things but cables isn't it on this thread.
