Feb 14, 2014 7:23 AM in response to caljimby SeanTown,I've used 3 other Apple cables (those bought at Christmas with iPad minis) and the problem remains - it is a software issue.
-
Feb 14, 2014 7:46 AM in response to caljimby cs3110,It’s clearly and issue that is caused by the introduction of the "authentication chip" that was enabled for use in the release but does not socialize with the software correctly - hence the problem does not discriminate to either genuine or non-genuine products and causes this flaky behaviour.
The authentication chip in the (HARDWARE) cable was initially designed to limit the resellers of cables but it appears to not work correctly with (SOFTWARE) iOS7 upon activation.
one thing we can all agree on is that it’s really annoying and I just want the issue fixed.

Feb 14, 2014 10:04 AM in response to SamsMochiby MissMoeMoe,I also just randomly started getting the same message last week. I only use the charger my phone came with. This is making my phone almost unusable as the message pops up every 25-30 seconds while it's unplugged!!!! I'm about to throw it out in the snow!

Feb 14, 2014 10:46 AM in response to MissMoeMoeby caljim,These messages only lasted overnight on my 5S. I rebooted the phone but that didn't seem to help. I did nothing else. Go to an Apple Store if you can.
There is an iOS upgrade coming out soon. Hope it fixes this issue.

Here here! The most sane response of the whole thread. Too much arrogance with the "evangelists" here who would not listen to real world problems and just quickly blame the end user. I for one am finding it hard to "evangelise" Apple under Tim Cook with the myriad problems from Maps to this iPhone5 charging fiasco. "It just works" no longer applies here. WAKE UP APPLE! Forget Sam@#%g for now. You need to adress your product's problems NOW!

Feb 15, 2014 3:30 AM in response to 808armadaby hawkmoon83,Add me to the list of those having the 'Accessory May Not be Supported" message. All my cables (official and unofficial) worked fine up until yesterday morning, when I plugged my phone into a 3rd party car charger and I got the message. Since then, any cable (and my Sony alarm clock) gives me the message. It's not a lint issue, nor a damaged port, as the phone will still connect to itunes and will still charge when it is turned off. It simply will not charge when turned on. Factory reset makes no difference.

Feb 21, 2014 8:54 AM in response to SeanTownby SeanTown,The phone has now been to an Apple store and I've been told it is a hardware issue. As I didnt buy it from Apple they will not fix it and have said I need to return it to my phone provider (O2) - theyve already offered to fix it for £200 (a ridiculous sum) - so I'm left will a faulty iPhone 5

Feb 21, 2014 9:33 AM in response to SeanTownby wegras,If the iPhone is out of warranty you can obtain an Out of Warranty exchange device from an Apple Store genius bar
It will be a factory refurbished unit looks like new and standard Apple charge is £209. Apple do not repair, they do the OoW exchange
Apple UK support any UK purchased iPhone regardless of whether it came from a carrier
-
Feb 21, 2014 9:46 AM in response to wegrasby SeanTown,Thanks Peter - the phone is one month out of warranty and O2 have said they'll fix it for £200 or replace it for £250 so comparable to what you've said. It's just really annoying to have to pay anything when it is not my fault!
Kind regards, Sean

Feb 21, 2014 9:50 AM in response to SeanTownby CordierCo,Whichever the issue is, hardware or software, Apple could simply address it with a software change: they just have to remove the warning message, that's it ! the plugs are working fine so who cares about those warnings. So annoying for nothing.

Feb 21, 2014 10:19 AM in response to SeanTownby wegras,Sean
What ever you do don't let O2 fixit they may have it repaired and that will finish any support from Apple as in "unauthorised tampering with "
get an exchange from Apple Store as I said £209 and it will look and feel like a new iPhone with 90 days warranty .All are hand tested in manufacturing and folklore says better than new
-
Feb 21, 2014 10:27 AM in response to wegrasby SeanTown,Thanks Peter I wasn't going to let O2 repair it but I am asking them to replace it because I have a contract with them but no phone. if that doesn't work I think I'll go with your suggestion so thank you very much

Feb 21, 2014 11:58 AM in response to SamsMochiby G-Man16,The message displayed by the phone is technically incorrect. Instead of:
"This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone"
it should read:
"This cable or accessory may not have been made by Apple, or else our software has too many bugs and can't tell if it was or not. Therefore our profit maximization software will prevent it from working with your iPhone even though it is a perfectly good product and was working fine before we came up with iOS 7. None of this "...may not work reliably..." stuff. It WILL NOT work, and you will have to buy a new one from us. If there is one thing we are good at here in Apple, it's in making as much profit from our customers as possible. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
"P.S. While you're at it, why no pick up one of our cute iPhone 5C models with the gaily colored back? Never mind that you still need to buy a protective case to prevent your overly fragile phone from shattering if you even look at it cross-eyed, and that the case will simply cover the gaily colored back anyway!"

Feb 22, 2014 3:25 PM in response to SamsMochiby isenunity,So , I bought my iphone 5S 3 weeks ago , updated the ios to the then latest ios version, i think its 7.0.5, and it works fine with the cable and charger that comes along with the iphone box.
So , until a few hours ago when i connect my phone to itunes using the cable that comes with my phone, it prompt me to update to 7.0.6, and then **** just got real. The cable immediately got flagged as non certified and **** after the 7.0.6 update and now i can no longer charge my phone. Freaking stupid.
