Q: 2010 macBook pro 15". Lagging and froze during last update.

Hi guys, 2 months ago I had my hinge replaced under warrenty because of a faulty glue joint. When I got the computer back I noticed a slight grinding in the body while runnung (hard drive?). It got better so I let it go, this morning I performed a software update and it froze during the validation process so I had to power off by holding the power button. I found a past tip that led me to find the folder with the update and I put the content of the folder in the trash. I did an update again and it said I was up to date.

I want to cure my lagging and freezing, need some help! as you can tell by my user name I am better with wood, not computers so please keep your recommendations in "newbie" terms. Thanks for your help!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You can download etrecheck and post the report here, in case it's a software issue. But if you had it serviced within the last 90 days you should be under warranty.

BobRz, I will try to do this myself as the people at the Apple store did not want to help me with my hinge problem and I had to go over their heads to get the work done under warrenty. They will probably say it was not them who made the problem (and maybe they are correct in saying that)! What do you want me to post with the entresoft?

It generates a report after it runs which shows all the files loaded at startup, etc. When it's done you'll see a button to copy it to the clipboard. Just past that here.

Just looking at the "launch agents", I see I have a brother printer application and Blackberry application that I do not use anymore, help on disabling these applications (where do I find them and trash them).

I've seen the Blackberry stuff cause problems before. Do you need it? Also, what's the brother entry for? Not sure why it needs to login. And also I don't know what the Spyro driver thing is.

Look in your Applications folder and see if there's an uninstall. If not, check System Preferences. If it has a pane, you can sometimes uninstall from there.

The Brother is for an old MFP (printer, copier, fax) don't have it anymore, Blackberry is GONE, Spryodriver is my son's Wii game. I will try your reccomendations. Does this have anything to do with the freezing and lag??

         (null) (disk0s1) <not mounted>: 200 MB

If they have a preferences pane it'll be right at the bottom of the main System Preferences screen.

Otherwise look here, in the root of your hard drive.

    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

    /System/Library/LaunchAgents
