Q: iPod Nano Gen 7 won't respond to *anything*.

I have a 7th Generation iPod Nano that's worked flawlessly until today, when it won't turn on or respond to being plugged into anything. I've tried using two different iPod USB cords (one that also worked flawlessly until today and a backup one that I didn't even take out of the factory packaging until a few days ago). I've tried using a USB to wall outlet converter to plug the iPod directly into a socket to charge it, which doesn't affect it at all. My iTunes (which I uninstalled and reinstalled just today and ensured that it was completely up-to-date) doesn't recognize it. Many of the troubleshooting pages say to hold down the hold/sleep button until the apple logo appears, but this doesn't work either.
Honestly, all signs point to it being irreparably broken, but I can't think of ANYTHING that could have caused it. It just looks like it's out of battery, but when plugged in, it doesn't respond at all. Has anyone else had such a problem? Do I just need to let it charge for a while before it seems to respond, or do I need to let it drain completely first? It's possible that it's already drained, though, because I haven't used it since yesterday and it could have drained overnight.

Thank you in advance. I'm very worried here.
