Q: How to Import movies from DVD into iMovie for Mavericks?

I am running OX 10.9.1, Mavericks. and want to transfer my VOB files from DVD into iMovie for editing. I followed the instructions in this discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3951 ) but ran into a problem that sems ot be specific to Mavericks.

I installed MPEG StreamClip (http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html), but - FYI - it turns out that for Mavericks, I needed to install the MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta. I had to follow

the instructions for Lion to actually get it onto my system [inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.]

Apple says that systems running Lion + don't need the Apple QT MPEG2 PB component, but I purchased & installed the BC the Streamclip site (Squared5.com) says Streamclip needs it, even if QT doesn't.

After installing the beta version of Streamclip, and opening the utility in the Streamclip disc image, I get this dialogue box: "The QT MPEG2 Playback Component has been successfully installed," but 1) I cannot find it anywhere, and, 2) when I try to import files from DVD to Streamclip, I get another dialogue box: "QT component is not installed"....? So I tried to reinstall it, but  get a dialogue box that it's already installed.

So, Im in a loop here. Help, please?
