Q: add new colors and shapes to tags

I would like to be able to add or modify existing tag colors and to add shapes such as triangles, squares etc. to expand the range of tag options.  How might I do this?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

    Not possible. See: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/10/os-x-10-9/9/#tags-implementation

"These implementation details may seem esoteric and inconsequential, but some of them do affect the user experience in significant ways. Sticking with the same seven integer colors from the legacy Labels system affords Tags backward compatibility, but it also explains why Tags have only seven possible colors and why those colors can’t be changed."

They've thought through everything except that 25% of the male population is red/green/brown color blind.  Hues of orange yellow and green are also difficult to distinguish independently.  Grey scale plus color would be more helpful. Shape and color would work best.  In the days of Steve Jobs this is a consideration that would have been made.  Asking how can we do this better than anybody is how Apple won it's position.  Not asking the same question today will cost it its position.

There's gotta be a hack for this. Most of us don't need that kind of backwards compatibility. Sadly, I am not a programmer.
