    Hello Cheapster,

It sounds like you have purchases on your iPod that you would like to transfer to your new computer, because you do not have access to your old computer anymore. This article will help you do just that:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    All the best,

    Sterling

    Hi Sterling,

I do have access to the old iMac but I tried using Migration Assistant and the task never completed. This was done via Bluetooth after the old Mac failed to detect the new one when they were connected by wire. If I follow your instructions will all my music exist on both Macs?

What the directions will do is copy your iTunes Store purchases currently on your phone to the new computer only.

This will only apply to items that you have downloaded or purcahsed from the iTunes Store. Any content that you had imported to iTunes on your old computer and synced to your phone will not be copied over and would need to be re imported to your current library.

Thanks again, Sterling. Despite being a Mac user of 15 years, I still struggle with the language and I'm just about drowning in this paragraph from the link you provided...

"So you can access content quickly, iTunes indexes all music, audio book, and video files that you add to iTunes. This index is called the iTunes library. When you add content to the library, iTunes adds an entry for each audio or movie file to your index. The files could be in your Home folder, somewhere else on your hard drive, on an external hard disk, or on another computer that you're accessing through file sharing."

So the iTunes library is an index. When I add content to this library, which is also an index, iTunes also adds an entry to this index. The content, as I understand is music, audio book and video files; what is the corresponding entry?

Until I can get my head round this I'm no closer to moving/copying my music from my old Mac to the new.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to explain but nor can I tell you how much this makes me think I should have taken my chances being born in a century of higher infant mortality. We're surely not living what they envisaged in the Age of Enlightenment?
