Q: CleanMyMac 2 causing problems in Mavericks 10.9.1

I just recentley updated my Mac Pro to Mavericks 10.9.1 and I have noticed CleanMyMac 2 causing some major issues. For some reason, whenever I run the app and use it for something (uninstall something, clean up system, etc) It removes all of my icons in some folders and areas of the system (Applications folder, etc.) So I am just advising that all people running Mavericks 10.9.1 stay away from CleanMyMac2. I do not believe that I am causing this problem or my Mac because I am running a fresh install of Mavericks. I have been using clean my Mac since Snow Leopard and it has never given me this problem so I think it just has to do with Mavericks and that it will most likely be fixed in the next update.

Is anyone else running Mavericks 10.9.1 experiencing this problem with clean my Mac as well? Hopefully I can see you some people from the stress of trying to find out why Half of their icons have disappeared for no reason.

So I am just advising that all people running Mavericks 10.9.1 stay away from CleanMyMac2.

Savvy Posters here suggest EVERYONE stay away from EVERY Mac Cleaning Application. They cause much more trouble than they are worth.

Restore from your backups. That is what backups are for, or OS X installer (depending on which OS)

I agree with you on the missing icons .. but during Automatic Cleanup, there is a thorough flushout of your system to clear space. However .. once you have done a cleanup and those precious icons disapear, you can get them all back with a reboot of your system. They will rebuild in that process. I admit that it isn't a feature I like and has only appeared in the last couple of versions, but i can assure you that it is causing no harm to apps or your system. Perhaps they are working on a solution to resolve this "unwanted" characteristic or already have.

I prefer my solution which is to avoid your crapware. It is worthless and dangerous.

you want a test system, fine, clone it and run it under VMWare.

Want lean mean 3rdvarty free for production, stability, performance, even "good" apps like iStat might be bestnot installed, I peefer a system maintence only small system for utilities.

Even the old Panther Cach Cleaner new version, I no longer use.

you are risking and wasting your time with junkwaretoday.

Sure. Re-Install Mac OS X. You do not need to erase your drive, just re-install right on top of the remains of your Mac OS X version.

That will put back the parts of Mac OS X that were discarded. It may not restore discarded preference files, so some additional setup may still be required on a case-by-case basis.

The hatter already answered that question: Restore from your backups.

Otherwise, nothing less than erasing your Mac and rebuilding it from the ground up will undo the effects of having used CleanMyMac.

Reinstalling OS X will not remove CleanMyMac, nor will reinstalling OS X restore the functions of other software or your own personal files that may have been affected as a result of using CleanMyMac or similarly categorized utilities.

The very premise that Macs need or can somehow benefit from "cleaning" is fundamentally flawed. The word "cleaning" is itself misleading, but deception is the only method by junk software peddlers can successfully market their worthless garbage. A product named WreckMyMac would not likely be very successful.
